Normal, uneven due to the length of the header pipes I believe, one being slightly shorter will create a marginal amount of more back pressure and so heat. Don't waste your time or energy trying to clean them up, will last about a week maybe less and it's back. Spend the time riding.

Technician hand prints. If the exhaust isn't wiped down with alcohol or something before the first run-in the oils left behind turn the metal a different color. I could actually make out four fingers and a thumb print on mine.

Thanks. I told my servicing dealer about it (first service) said they would send a note to Yamaha. He suspected a response of NORMAL from them if any.

Im not seeing any fingerprints or such just typical bluing. I just thought it should be closer to an even amount between the 2. Seems to run fine. No stalling. Slight pop on down shift sometimes. A couple of hot hard starts.

The headers on this bike are stainless and get pretty ugly. First blue and then dark grey.
They do polish back to blue with a lot of effort but won't stay that way long.

I always liked the "cans" on the ST1300. They were stainless, and over time, turned a cool shade of bonze/gold.

Just curious, why do you think they should be even?

It's really pretty rare for different cylinders on multi-cylinder engines to run the same exhaust temp. Add in the cat/con and exhaust routing, just more reasons for some variation. A really dramatic difference might indicate something was up, but with EFI that's pretty rare.

Fluid dynamics would predict the longer header would cause more back pressure, assuming both of the header pipes have the same inside diameter

There's also the issue that one picks up more contamination from the front tire. Rain or any other water coming up off the street especially has a lot of chemicals.

I’ll buy into the difference in bluing but not temperature difference within 2” of the head outlet .

S10 headers are not equal length?
Not exactly. Think in terms of flow from the head to the cat insert. Cylinder head temp is usually measured at the exhaust manifold/port. I've seen some significant differences on autos. Never put probes in a moto exhaust though.
