The part numbers are very similar but the first numbers are different. All other part numbers are the same. It's $100 cheaper for the newer one.

My educated guess would be that they are the same. The wiring for the bulbs has been changed or superseded, and since you have to buy the housing as a complete set, the part number has been changed to reflect that.

The part number on the Gen 1 had already been changed to reflect the new wire harness upgrade. I don't know what the difference is, but the bracket that holds the light assembly and the cover that goes on the front of the light are the same for all years. I can't see any reason they won't interchange between years.

I might go for it. Save 100.
I am curious as well to know if a Gen2 headlight assembly will fit a Gen1 bike.
I know the “deflector” trim piece (fits above the headlight assembly) is different on a Gen1 to the one on a Gen2.
Be careful with Partzilla as I have heard some real Charlie Foxtrot
issues with orders.
I always use Motosport for OEM parts for my bikes and their prices and service have been top notch.
BTW, why do you need to replace your headlight assembly?

I was in a collision and rebuilding the front end. The headlight assembly is toast and all the plastics holding it are bad.
I have used partzilla since 2013 for a whole bunch of orders and not have had one issue. Where has it been posted there are issues with partzilla. I'm about to place a $800 order with them for the front end plastics.

A quick search shows motorsport has worse third party reviews than partzilla on three different sites. - I throw out truspilot reviews cause that's basically a scam review site.

The negative stuff I have heard about Partzilla was always word of mouth from fellow riders as well as members from the various forums I belong to for the particular bikes (all Japanese brands) that I have owned and or currently own.
Funny thing is I have ordered so many parts (from very small to large) from Motosport in the past 6 years with nary a hitch.
I guess like all online buying it can be hit or miss.
Was not my intention to worry you just passing along what I have heard.

I'm Bad, I'm Nationwide.
I've ordered from partzilla a few times. Even screwed up once and ordered the wrong part number, they took it back with zero complaints, even waived the 15% return fee (I had to pay return shipping of course) and it was a $200 part so they easily could have made a few bucks. If you ever run into problems, call they were helpful.

Only complaint I had was one of the parts listed as ship in 2-3 days, but it took over 3 weeks because no one in the US had it and it had to come from Japan. Can't really blame that on them, but the not emailing me to tell me I can, it took me calling to find out after 2 weeks.

pretty sure the likes of motorsport and partzilla are second seat to dealers. It all comes from the same place. I know i'll have to wait...it wouldn't be any different from a dealer.

Don't know the answer to the question, but my review of partszilla is they are great. I ordered a Honda wire harness, and a couple Yamaha oil filters and shortly later found I had ordered the wrong harness. Wrote them back to cancel the order and reordered the correct harness and two more filters. A couple days later they said they shipped both orders and should have not shipped the firet order, so I could do as I want with the first order at no charge.

Welp, I got most of the piece shipped to my house to restore the front end, however, the most expensive piece, the headlight assembly came broke. They are sending me a shipping label to send it back and have to wait for a replacement....womp

Also, I was verifying the differences between the GenI and II. The headlight wiring on the II has 6 wire connector. The gen I has a 4 pin connector as shown in my attachments. It looks like it will be a royal pita, but possibly remove gen II harness and route gen I harness. I'm guessing I could try paracord or string attached to the headlight bulb connecters to try to pull it through. If this could be done, this would save that $100...I don't have a gen II wire diagram to see why there are 6 wires when they both have the same amount of lights...

The Gen 1 has a ground, a headlight hot, a marker light hot, and a highbeam shutter hot. I don't know what the extra wires on the Gen 2 might be. It could be that they run separate lines to each of the headlight bulbs and shutters?

You got this!!!
Confirmed, it works. I pulled out the GenII harness. I used some string to pull the GenI harness through. Lights worked, everything gravy, saved $100 by ordering the newer part number.

Update on partzilla, I got half of a partial order. They send me a broken head bucket but as soon as I checked the return into ups, they shipped out the replacement. So far so good, unfortunately, my fender and other bits are backorder till mid-July.
