I'm seeing all the guys in Europe taking delivery of their long-awaited Tenere 700's, and I'm reminded of the long wait we had for the Super Tenere in the States. I had paid a deposit on it a year before - it had delayed for 5 months by the tsunami in Japan. I think I paid $14,200 for mine, from Romney Cycles, Romney WV. 150,000 miles later, it's been pretty good value I'd have to say! Still puts a smile on my face just about every time I get on it.

Only thing is, sometimes I wish it was a bit lighter. The Tenere 700 is trying to tempt me away... not yet, not yet!

I wish! That was day one. This is her 2920 days later :p - no major problems, 2 cam chain tensioners and an alternator, cracked rim... bad ABS unit because I didn't change the brake fluid in a timely manner!

I bought my '12 in July, 2012 from the original owner with only 1500 miles. He was selling since he had purchased a GSA. So not the original owner but started looking for one when they announced them in early 2012. Looked at that cutaway engine at the cycle show (and that dakar sticker) and knew I wanted one. She has shared the garage with a few other bikes over the years but she has been the only constant.

I remember it seemed like forever waiting for my 2012 to arrive...I think I put down the deposit at least six months before it showed up (but I did get a great deal). I picked it up the day I left on a week long trip. Dropped it the first morning and dented the tank. Still have the dent. Still love the bike.

Still got my PDP '12. 85,000 miles. Different color now. No issues. Mechanical tensioner. Haven't had a loose spoke in 20,000 miles now. Took me to Yellowstone last Fall.
Our Trevor is a world traveling humanitarian. Those handprints are from children from all over the world... at least since he replaced his Jesse boxes.

LOL - You look so young in that photo and the bike was - was - was - CLEAN!

As you know, I sold the black 12 when a too-good deal came up on a nearly new blue 2014. Still enjoy following your travels on FB. A little over 2 weeks and I'll be able to take off and travel too.

looks like your grand children like your bike too.... custom paint , nice!
Those are the hand-prints of Syrian refugee children on an island called Lesbos. Kids. It's from when Trevor spent months with an aid organization helping those who made it to shore after crossing from Turkey on rubber rafts. They were sold life jackets that didn't float and many died.

I have a 2012 that I bought from a guy that owns a dealership. He had the bike long enough to ride it to Florida from Indiana and back. I bought it with 2500 miles on it and it now has around 45,000.
Splitting my riding time between it and a 2018 Goldwing DCT.

My original PDP bike has been gone since February 2017 when we got DM her 2017 Tenere.

Tevor, your post got me to go through Romney's Facebook photos to see what was out there. There were a bunch of us in that first batch at Romney.

I've been gray a long time.

Been a while since I've seen Spklbuk around here. Nobody knows WV road like Jim.

panniers with the hand prints of children , if not his grand kids , which in of itself would be cool , even seems more special that these children with nothing have touched a few hearts . thanks for " the rest of the story " CWrecks .

Wow what a cool story about the kids and the hand prints! I got my 2012 tenere late in 13. Still riding it and plan on riding it as long as it will haul me around. Had the opportunity to ride a new honda african twin. The more off road version. All i have ever read was how under powered the tenere is but just from the seat of my pants my yamaha is quicker than the lighter honda was. I really liked the honda but it is no reacement for my bike.

Hah! I barely have 15,000 miles on my PDP. Between work, my other bikes, and other life issues sucking up my time, I don't ride it much.
That should change in about 6 months - I'm retiring!
Ha ha good to hear about the upcoming retirement! And always nice to have other bikes to share around the riding time. I have three now, but due to geographical issues, only ever one at a time :D - S10 in Europe, SV650 in Australia, and Honda CB300F in Thailand. Different bikes, all great in their own way...

Close but not quite! I was in Lesvos, but the artwork was from kids at Idomeni, on the border between Greece and Macedonia, stuck there when Macedonia closed the border. 15,000 people stuck for months, terrible situation, and very boring for refugees, the kids especially. Anything to keep them entertained!

Look forward to catching up somewhere Bob! I'm in Romania a bit longer, then Poland/Germany, then way south to Faro, Portugal by October. Don't spose you're likely to be anywhere on that route?
