As long as the new handlebar is 1 and 1/8 inch diameter, you should be fine. I've just installed the Rox Risers and am going to see how the OEM handlebar works (2016 S10). So far it's better, but i'm nursing a rotator cuff injury, so it's inconclusive at this point. The part that is S10 specific (or angled lower mount specific) is at the base of the risers - the angle on the S10 lower mounts requires a longer (I think it's just longer) stub coming off the risers. But the upper part that attaches to the handlebars shouldn't make a difference. The handlebar itself is straight and not angled like the lower mount.

So while I can't provide direct evidence, I'm in a similar boat as you and will be testing out the OEM handlebar with the risers. I looked at this issue when putting it together and don't see a problem with the risers if you want to try a different handlebar.

The issues with handlebar sweep causing wrist and back pain has been resolved. I went with the Tenere specific flex bars from Fasst Company. The rubber dampening in the new bars also have the added benefit of removing almost all road vibration. The results are simply superb. There is already a detailed thread on the flex bars on this forum.

One big problem with Faast Company is the Super Tenere specific bend is only available through their online shop. No other online retailer carries them.
So when there is a nice 20% off sale through Fasst and Online shops... Us Aussies cannot buy them as Fasst do not ship outside of USA and online sellers like Rocky Mountain ATV who have awesomely stupid cheap shipping to Australia do carry the Super Tenere bend.

Gig,

I contacted Jason Parsons (j.parsons373@gmail.com) @ the company and he said the following about the flex bar availability in Australia:

"We actually have a distributor set up in Australia. They move a surprising amount of product for us. Id be curious to chat with this gentlemen to see exactly what happened. We can (and do) ship to Australia. Obviously the cost of shipping is pretty steep so we try to have our distributor in Australia dial the customer in first, but if they can't then we will ship to Australia. Perhaps this gentleman spoke with one of our new sales reps who wasn't up to speed? I'm not sure? But we do ship to Australia and are willing to offset the cost of the order to help with shipping. If it's not too much of a hassle, would you mind passing my email along to that gentleman and having him reach out to me"

Thanx TX

I know there is an Aussie distributor... and I have not spoken to them.
but most Australian distributors do not offer the USA discounts like USA stores do when Vendor give discount.

Also the Super Tenere bend is a special bend that is not used for any other bike so probably a special order item which then means no discounting.

I only just bought another Protaper bar to try. I have the RRR S10 risers, I did buy a Protaper Contour Raptor Bar and it is too high with risers meaning i cannot use the risers adjustability. It is set to min height and that puts the bars at my max needed height.
Will install the Contour ATV Low bend this weekend. The lower height looks promising.

I am 5-10' and the bike's wiring is just barely long enough to work with the two inch ROX Risers plus the Flex bar system. If you can achieve less sweep with the Protaper, go for it. I like how you can adjust the level of road feedback and softness in the steering based on the type of rubber disc you use. These bars will soften shocks from rocks and potholes and such. They can also remove specific RPM resonance that some bikes suffer from as they are aluminium.

Here is an image comparison of the OEM and the Flex bar system.

Ok so not to beat a dead horse ::002:: but......

Has anyone tried the ProTaper ADV bar, standard model, on a 2012? I currently have the stock bar with 1 inch risers. As most of us are, I have been getting the pain in my shoulders and hands. I had no idea this was an issue with the Tenere and thought it was just me until I had a friend ride my bike one day. Coming off a KTM 990 he mentioned the sweep of the bars and how different it was to what he was use to. So because its cold and snowy and all I think about is what I can do to my bike because I can't ride it, that led to me searching handlebars on the forum and finding out a lot of complaints about the sweep.

I was also wondering if anyone has seen/felt a difference in the angle that their upper body is at when changing the sweep. I found the web page cycle-ergo.com and punched in my height and inseam, 6 ft and 32 in. Then started changing the height of the bars and sweep. I noticed that the upper body angle moved forward when changing the sweep of the bars to just a few degrees. I also plugged it in with the 1 inch risers and the angle lessened a bit. Does the angle bother you? Do you even feel the difference? Is it better? When I plugged in a BMW 1200GSA the stock body angle is a 6 degree lean forward with a 6 foot person and stock bar.

If no one here has this bar I'll probably just go for it, if anything, documenting purposes even if it doesn't work. I believe that the 1 inch risers will probably max or over extend the stock brake lines with the higher ProTaper bar.

So far I have found the stock bars on a gen 1 is 4in high with a 5.75in sweep
Pro Taper standard ADV bar is 4.8.in high with a 3.18in sweep

So....are longer cables needed with both the ProTaper adv and adv high bars?
I'm using stock throttle cables, altho there is not much slack at full lock. If/when I ever need to replace worn-out cables, I'll get a longer set.
As stated earlier, I have longer clutch/ brake lines and I'd say they are necessary.

Stuck my neck out and ordered a set of those Turkish risers on eBay. Quality is very good, fit was perfect and installation was a breeze. I did not need to re-route or modify any hoses or mounts at all. Good quality SS longer replacement bolts are included.

I’m looking forward to mine arriving soon. I have the helibar riser but it’s not quite what I’m looking for. These and a set of pro taper or renthals should do the trick.

Picked up a set of fasst flexx's to replace my Protaper ADV high bars. Interested in retaining my barkbusters. Anyone know if they work the brp hand-guard mount? I'm guessing it just takes some finessing/heat on the guards to bend them into the right shape. If it's not even close I might consider picking up a set of the Cycra's that are known to work.

After spending another 6 months recovering I finally got around to doing this. To answer anyone who's wondering: Tusk makes a bracket specifically for the fast flex bars to use hand guards that wouldn't otherwise reach. I love this setup. More so than the Protapers I ran for awhile. I bent my last set of protaper bars at the Romney camp and ride last year. Just enough to be annoyingly noticeable. I've got helibar risers, the tusk hand guard mounts and Bark buster guards. You sit it a way more relaxed cruiser like position. standing up and riding is very comfortable. Not hunched over, bars are right where you need them. Took about 15 mins with a map torch to bend the end of the bar busters into the right angle for the bar mounts. Additionally, mounting the controls on the fasst flex bars is far easier. The control surface is straight and long. The pro taper bars didn't have much surface for controls and would be right on the bend putting the levers in awkward positions to make them work with the hand guard mounts. It was very much worth the premium to upgrade.

Which Fast Flex bend are you running, and how did you decide? I like the look of those, have debated them for a while, and my stock bar are bent as well. Looks like a good upgrade.

I have a '13 S10, I wonder how my bark busters would go on - I think my year S10 had threaded inserts, and the Gen2's did not?

That tusk bracket is a good insight, thanks for posting that.

Thanks!
Mike
