so with the stock bars i basically feel like i'm being pulled to the front of my seat. i rolled them back about an inch and it felt much better, but my controls just kiss my tank in that position at full lock, so i'd rather not run them there.

These seem like a good option, i see that most of the aftermarket bars have nowhere near the back sweep of the stockers, but with some extra height i should be able to rotate them to a good position. These work OK with stock control wires/cables?
On mine, the throttle cables were fine but the clutch and brake hoses were too short no matter where I moved them or tried to route them.
I ended up having longer ones made locally at Whisler-Bearing (Hose-Works)

oh nice you're in CO too. i think i bought some cog belt pulleys from those guys for my old job.

i've got aftermarket braided lines, i'll have to play around with them and see how much room i've got. i'm considering going with just risers to keep things simple. i think 30mm riser would do it for me.

I have a 2012 with stock bars that I would like to swap for the ProTaper EVO Adventure (low model).
No risers.

From reading this and other threads, it is my understanding that:
  1. Stock cables will work without extensions on the EVO Adventure lows.
  2. There is enough space on the protaper bars for all stock controls.
  3. Gen 1 stock bars are not threaded and instead have a nut or some threaded thing welded into the bars that the bar ends screw into. I will need to buy new tube inserts to use the stock handguards on the new bars.
Is this correct?
If so, can anyone recommend tube inserts to mount the stock bar ends and guards to the new bars?
Anything else that needs to be addressed in this swap?

Been running a Helibars bracket and line on a 14ES.

Installed a Evo Adv High, no Helibars, kept the brake extension. Really really at the max of all the lines and cables, found it had too much flex in the bars. Liked the sweep much better, which was my main concern.

Got the Evo Adv regular height. A hair taller than stock, same sweep, but it pulled me a bit forward, and was flexing.

Put the Helibars bracket on with that bar. Bingo. Found a good setup for me. The Helibars was a solid bridge tying the two clamps together so it was giving me that solid feel, add in the rise and set back of the bracket, I really like it.

For the benefit of others doing the same thing, I'll answer my own questions.
1-3 are YES.
The size/threading on the bar end bolts is M8 1.25.
Moose Racing makes an expanding nut / tube insert that fits the bars and takes the same bolt, but the bolt is too short to work with the Yamaha bar ends. The stock bolt is also too short. The best I could find at my local big box store was an M8-1.25 x 70 mm which was just long enough to grab a few threads. 80mm would be better.

After adding a seat concepts to my '12 (1in higher) I had the shoulder blade pinch. It was fixed with the solid up and back rox risers. No cables need anything. 50000 miles of love with that setup.

Have a '14 now. Put my seat concepts on there and have had zero issues. But I need some height for standing. For $35 I'm starting here.

Bumping this thread for some advice on my 2012.
The stock bars are impossible for me to ride standing up and I’m only 5’9. They’re basically in my lap and I have no control.

I’m gathering that the adv high bars require clutch and brake extensions?

I am sure it is best to get extended lines. I moved my bars quite a bit and didn't put extended lines on it but I also narrowed my bars by 2 inches so there was some slack there. I really need to put extended lines on it as mine are at the limit when I am at full lock. I also have a 2012

I have one of the newer 21s and it's been a pain for me to find a bar I like. I like the CR high protaper Evo, but I can't fit the controls on. The brake and clutch mounts end up cockeyed and pointing up slightly because of the expansion to 1 1/8. I already have a tourtech riser on, and may switch to the helibars or the one from ape racing to switch to a 7/8s bar.

Mainly I am getting a little rotation after a spill, but turning the other way and giving her a few love taps seems to straighten everything.

Threw the stock bars back on after the protaper didn't fit and just have them rotated pretty far forward. Seems to give me some better control when standing and a bit of a reach sitting. 5'10" for height reference.

Hello everyone!
I'm planning to buy a Fastco Flexx handlebar.
I'm really hesitating between the dimensions.
The only thing that is certain, is the choice of the "Adventure" version which is the closest to the original with wide handlebars and therefore room for all commodos.
I'm not sure about the back sweep and height.
Do you have any advice?

Flatter sweep by 4-5⁰ and 10mm higher is as close to the GSA1200's, which is perfect.
The Protaper Contour Raptor is an amazing alternative.

wanted to share some comparison shots between the stock bars and the protaper adventure high bars, I wasn't able to find any prior to my purchase so wanted to share. These are nice due to the height no need for risers like alot of the others and the lesser backwards sweep make for a much more comfortable hand position.

Can I DM you some specific questions about these ProTaper Bars?

I used extended clutch and brake hoses, which are easy to fit as they only run between the master cylinders and 2 unions around the headstock.
I also chose to file the little tit off the switchgear so they would locate and tighten up properly rather than drill the bars to locate them. That also allows you to rotate the switchgear if you want to change the ergonomics slightly and even without the tit they won’t rotate without slackening the screws.

You can however just about get away with re-routing the front brake hose behind the right hand fork leg but it is rather taut on full left lock, the clutch hose will just about reach without moving it. I did it this way on my 1st S10 but was never happy with the lines being so taut, they didn’t restrict free movement and it passed MOT - just!

You can’t use Barkbusters with them though, I had to replace the OEM handguards.
