Hammock curious here.
I sleep almost exclusively on my sides. Could I be comfortable in a hammock?
Back sleeper here. Hammocks only work that way.
I've slept in my Dream Hammock either way. A good asym will let you lay how you want to lay, as long as the position of your body works out to roughly the way the hammock is cut, you will lay flat. The only thing to be concerned with when sleeping on your back is hyper-extension of the knees during the night, happens to some people, easily remedied by balling up something and shoving it under your knees.

I've hammock camped for years on the side of a mountain, it's the best sleep I get outside of the king sized orthopedic dual pillow top at home. If I have to ground sleep, it's a necessity, never a choice.

Wouldn't an ordinary sleeping bag work?
To some degree yes. But the small air pocket and uncompressed insulation of a free hanging (draw cord ends sealed against hammock when properly adjusted) underquilt is mucho warmer. And inch worming is eliminated; I can never keep a sleeping bag adjusted comfortably. YMMV.

I have a hammock that I've yet to use it would love to use it because it would be easier to carry than a tent... But I camp often in the desert nothing to hang it on. Also worried about finding camping spots having to look for trees that are the right distance from each other. But I do plan on trying it sometime

I enjoy my hammocks for a nap, or a rest, but in the same spot where I usually camp in the desert without trees to properly use it.

My friends boy sure enjoyed it last weekend where I hung out for a few hours at a high elevation camp spot here in AZ.

Also keep in my van that I can string up inside.

I just back from a trip to Oklahoma and was planning on hammocking for the first time ever. I luckily took a tent just in case I couldn't get comfortable in a hammock. When I got to the spot that I had reserved, there was only 1 tree. Hammocking went out the window at that point. Don't know what I would have done with out the tent backup as all the other camping spots were taken.

Clark North American hammock here. It has under storage pockets, a huge wrap around fly that will keep you dry in any storm and it can be set up as a tent if no trees available. As for very cold weather, instead of a sleeping pad you use a blanket or thermal something under your sleeping bag as there is no ground insulation to help. Comfortable but it does take a bit of adjustment the first few times aboard. Comfortable to sit on. I will use an extra tarp for more sun and rain protection when sitting around and to drop down for more privacy when dressing if that is a problem.

How cool is that! I love camping, and I like long trips through the forest, near lakes where I can stay overnight in a tent.

Oh so, I went hammock camping twice last year. I guess I took pictures of both.

These are from my trip to Missouri:

I do tent and hammock camping, but recently bought (got on preorder) for the haven tent XL.
All the extras for hammock camping, tarp, under quilt, top quilt/bag ended up making for more to the sameish bulk to pack compared to my tent setup. The trying to get the perfect lay, fighting my underquilt position as I flopped around at night always became a hassle. I Got good sleep but had to readjust several times through the night.

Of the reviews of these I've watched sold me on one of these, the true lay flat setup and ease of setup where big draws to it. The being able to use if for both hanging or ground use and not having to worry about the where im camping as much was the finisher in my decision. In CO camping above treeline for some great views is nice but your SOL if in a hammock only unless you carry a bulky and typically expensive stand. Similar issues with only a tent forced my primitive only way of camping to keep me looking for flat spots sometimes. Can't wait to get it to try it out.

Sure love the thing, did just under 40 nights out last season in it and slept great everytime, This is BY FAR the best sleep ive had camping, the insulated pad is good till about mid 30s below that then you may want to get the insulated cover they make.

It sets up very easy and quick, using a battery powered pump makes it even more so, Its nice being able to setup and take down all while standing no more rolling tents up on the ground. So far ive been lucky and had trees everywhere ive been so havent had to use the ground config on it yet, but know it would be fine.

Likely going to buy a second one as i kinda want to try the safari and then id have my other for buddies or the wife to use if they want.
