Hi y'all.

I've just picked up a used 2014 non-ES. 13,000mi, great condition, and well-farkled. This is my second ST. I had a virtually identical bike back in 2014 for about a year that I sold due to circumstances around a health issue (now resolved). There's a much longer story that we can perhaps talk about over a campfire sometime . . .

I'm already learning quite a lot by digging around in the forum. I've got plenty of questions about setting the bike up for the type of riding I want to do with it. I'll post those in the appropriate places on this forum.

My preferred style of riding is long days on two-lane roads and gravel, lots of stops, being surrounded by glorious scenery and camping at night. I just got back from two weeks and 2500mi riding my DR650 around the SW doing portions of the GDBDR, COBDR and AZBDR. I really like the DR for that kind of riding, but I bought the ST so I could travel a bit more comfortably over long distances and bring my wife along occasionally.

What else? . . . I'm currently a professor of adventure education at a small liberal arts college. Yeah, for real, that's my job title. My entire adult career (37 years) has been spent teaching mostly outdoors. I've got a lot of expertise in a wide range of outdoors-related topics including wilderness and travel medicine, navigation, land and water-based activities and leading expeditions. I've spent most of my career teaching and traveling with novices, and young people in general. I'm starting to prioritize spending time with people around my age (62) in adventure activities and I'm finding motorcycle touring and sailing to be my preferred recreational activities these days.

I have a lot to learn about riding adv motorcycles on dirt roads and on trails - especially with a big bike like the super T.

I'm looking forward to interacting with folks in this forum.

Welcome from Texas. I used to live in Page, back in the '70s. I went back to visit in '14. . . . not much had changed.

Thanks, Sierra1. I wonder if Page has changed in the last 6 years since you were last there. Seems like the pace of development here in AZ has accelerated dramatically in the last few years.

I doubt it. You don't end up in Page by accident. You got to mean to go there, as far off the beaten path that it is. It's my favorite place to have lived.

Was out there last year to ride 191 to Clifton, it was actually our 3rd attempt, first time it was to hot for one of the riders so we had to forget it, second time they had forest fires, the third attempt everything worked out great, even the weather was fantastic ! 191 is a ride I highly recommend !

191 . . . Absolutely! A couple of weeks ago we went south on 288 from 260 to Globe (AZBDR), then Globe to Safford and up 191 to Alpine. From there we headed into NM and caught the Great Divide BDR heading on to Santa Fe NF, Carson NF and Rio Grande NF and eventually circling back to the AZ BDR down to AZ 260 again. Such great riding!
