Hi guys,

anybody here have the top box and 2 panniers with 3 different keys, i just bought the givi sl103 kit so i can change the 3 barrels on my top box and 2 panniers and have 1 key that,ll open the 3 boxes.
now i know how to change the locks over watched a few videos on youtube about the sl103 kit, they say that when you open the sl103 kit the 3 locks come with the keys in the locks and don,t pull the key out as its a job setting the barrel to get key back in, i watched a youtube video and the guy has taken the lock off the pannier and has it in his hand with key in lock he pulls the old key out puts it down undo,s the 10mm bolt on the other side then pushes the barrel out onto table then pushes the new barrel with key in into the lock and puts the 10mm nut on job done.
but i,m thinking that the barrel and key that came out are seperated so now no good, if you can push the new barrel with key in into the lock, would it be better to pull the old barrel out with key still in so it could be used again

any thoughts from people that have done this

cheers

Rob

As fas as I know your can remove the key later, just hold the cilinder with your fingers and turn the key until it releaes.
By the way, I you bought the Yamaha set you could manage to match the panniers locks (of your GIVI's) with your ignition key.
Normally two sets are sufficient for three boxes.

no i have givi trekker outback boxes all have different keys, so i bought the givi sl103 kit so i can pull the 3 locks off with different keys
and put the 3 new barrels in so i have 1 givi key that,ll open the 3 boxes instead of 3 keys.
i watched a video how to do it but the guy had the lock in his hand off the pannier pulled the key out and undid the 10mm nut and pushed the barrel out so the key and barrel were seperated, i read its hard to put key back in barrel.
so i was woundering if you put the new barrel straight in with key inserted you must be able to push the old barrel out with key still in it so its still a spare lock

i was just hoping that with the lock in your hand, and realising the 10mm nut that the barrel would slide out with key still in barrel as they push the new barrel with key in straight in the lock.
the guy on youtube pulled the old key out and pushed barrel out on its own i ask as the new kit it says don,t pull the key out of the barrel until in the lock

I don't get it. I replaced the cilinder by matching the key to the original ignition key. Removing the cilinder (also without key) is easy. Just open te box and put the key in the close position. Note that the box is still open. Than remove the key and exchange the cilinder for the new one.

Edit: Found a video

when i bought my xt1200 i bought a givi trekker topbox that had a givi key for it then when i bought the panniers they came
with a different key in each pannier so i have 3 givi keys to open the 3 boxes, nothing to do with my yamaha ignition key.

so i bought a give sl103 3 key kit that is 3 barrels with 3 keys that are all the same, so i need to change the 3 original barrels and keys with the sl103 kit so when i have the 3 panniers on i have 1 givi key that,ll open the 3 boxes plus my ignition key

Yes, I fully understand. Just watch the video. It is as easy as shown. Open de box, remove the key. Get the cilinder out. Put your new cilinder in, place back the plate and your fine.

If you have the Yamaha kit, than you have to change the cilinder so that it matches the ignition. This is not applicable for you. Just exchange the cilinder for the cilinder in your SL103 kit and your are already fine.

i know,
what i want to know is can i not remove the key and pull the old cylinder out with key still in it so it can be saved and used again

as you can put the new cylinder in with key in it so old must come ou as well with key in it, i been told that if you pull the old key out of barrel then push barrel out the key will not go back in so the old lock is no good i,d like to keep the old locks so they can be used again if needed

cheers

No worries there. You can remove and place back the key as much as you want (during removing or afterwards). So you can re-use the cilinder and key later if you want. You can store the key in the cilinder or outside the cilinder. It's what you want. However it's wise to store them together ;)

ok,

thank you so the old givi cylinder and key can be put back in and out with no issues i ask because the video says when you have the sl103 kit the kit has 3 barrels with keys in the barrels but don,t pull the keys out of the barrels before you have fitted them to the lock housing of the pannier

It's one and a half year ago that I did mine. It can be that during mounting the key should be in, but it can be remove after installation. If the cilinder is out, you can place and remove the key, no problem. But it can be that during mounting you slightly have to turn the cilinder with the key. If you just start with one case you will see it and you will understand.
