Givi S250 Toolbox

I'm planning to buy the Givi tool box (S250) for my 2016 S10 (not ES), but found out that Givi says that you need a specific mounting to be bolted under the Givi crashbars. Although my bike has these crashbars I don't like this solution (too exposed if you drop the bike and if it's on the right side it wil stay in front of the oil level plug).

On the Givi site our S10s don't apply for the universal mounting kit (S250KIT).
I have the Trekker Outback pannier mountings and would love to installl the toolbox behind the right pannier.

The question is: Any of you guys know the reason why we can't use the Givi universal mount? Or, screw givi opinion ::005::, buy anyway and cross fingers?

Thanks,
Paulo

Re: Givi S250 tool box mounting kit

I have the Givi tool box mounted behind the RHS pannier rail... the universal pannier fitting kit works fine and a good fit..

Downside is you have to mount the lid with the lock in the downward position or the key fouls the indicator and rear fender... No real problem ..

Re: Givi S250 tool box mounting kit

When I was looking for a locking toolbox solution, I considered the Givi S250 also. I never saw the crashbar mounting option, so that's new to me. Either way, I have Altrider crashbars and Hepco & Becker pannier racks, so nothing short of me fabricating a mount was going to work out. Too bad, because I really like this Givi box and wish it would have worked out for me.

Actually, the pannier mounting kit is variable for either side of pannier rack.

https://media.givi.it/XN-Prodotti/istruzioni/S250KIT.pdf

However there is a need to enlarge the pannier supporting spools on the rack.

& yes, I do not agree to mount underneath the crashbars, as shld the bike tips over with impact, the toolbox may just crack & deforms.

had tool tubes underneath there before, got a tip over on LHS, tube's mounting tab gone beyond repair.

also, its obstructing on the RHS if need to access the EO top up area.

Thanks for the replies, guys.

I'm thinking if it's possible that on full compression the swingarm (or the rear brake assembly to be exact) may hit the Givi toolbox...

Not with the outback Trekker panniers, you unscrew the spool retaining bolt and replace with the longer ones in the kit.

With the standard Givi panniers .. You do need to drill the holes larger

Well, let me see if I understood this correctly:
( sorry guys, but english is my 2nd language and I can be "lost in translation" and don't wanna mess up with my order)

With Givi Trekker Outback mounts and panniers we CAN install the Givi universal kit and tool box on the right side of the S10?

If you have the Givi Outback Trekker panniers and pannier rails the box bolts straight on without any modification... But the case cover of the Givi tool box needs to be put on upside down or the key fouls the rear mud guard and indicator when trying open or close the cover.. Not a problem as the cover can be installed either way up, it makes no difference.

If your fitting the box to STANDARD Givi pannier rails (Not the Outback rails ) You need to drill and tap the two lower fixing points.. BUT YOU DON'T NEED TO DO THIS MOD IF YOU ARE USING THE GIVI OUTBACK TREKKER PANNIER RAILS AS THEY ARE PRE DRILLED AND THE LONGER BOLTS COME IN THE FIXING KIT..

The box fits inside the pannier rail on the RHS of the bike and doesn't foul anything.. I've measured/checked and road tested on full suspension travel!!

I'll take some pictures later and post them...

Thank you a lot Greg for the thorough explanation.

Greg, can the lock set be changed out to match other Givi accessories if one was to have a an extra key set?

Yes you can change the barrel..

I haven't bothered with mine as my panniers and top box are key matched so its only an extra key.

I've just install Givi S250 Toolbox kit for my Givi Trekker Outback side pannier rack.

Didn't see any thread regarding this, so i just wanna share, how it looks like on S10.

Well, i could say this is not just plug&play kind of parts. MIGHT need some minor mods adjustment.

Just as a FYI, the lid can be installed with the key side up, or down. It fits both ways.

The tool box is about $80 US, but the fitting kits run an average of $75! And they don't make one specific to the Super Ten if you're not running Givi racks.
