I have just bought a set of Givi quick release rails from another forum member. I am having some issues getting them to fit. Don’t get me wrong, each section fits nicely, it’s just when you try to connect the sections together that they appear to need some bending to get the QR fasteners to line up.

Now my Super Ten is a 2017 non-ES model that doesn’t have the passenger grab handles. No problem, I thought I would just use 2mm stainless steel washers to pack them out. Initially I used 4mm on each fixing point, each side fitted nicely, but when I tried to fit the cross brace under the rear mudguard, it appears to be 10mm too long and doesn’t line up at all. I ended up packing each mounting point by 8mm and still it is a struggle to get the QR fasteners to connect. I am thinking of going back to 4mm packing and cutting a 10mm section from the cross brace and having it welded up.

Any suggestions gents?

Hmmm - Photos would help unless somebody has specific experience.

I think you are way out on the packing you will need to replicate the bikes fitted with grab handles. There is the depth of the handle & also what appears to be a spacer behind IIRC. Whilst I haven't dismantled mine, I reckon a good 10-12mm - I think the spacer at the back may actually be slightly thicker than the front. Maybe someone has a parts diagram? Personally, I would resist the temptation to cut & shut the cross brace & use it to define the packing you need - maybe get an engineering shop to run you up a custom set of SS spacers idc.

In the meantime, here is the Givi PLR2119 instructions, in case somethong has been bent or wrongly assembled ..........

+1, the spacer required is 11mm IIRC, but, are you sure that the rails are from another non-ES model? The ES version is wider on the lower part to accomodate the electronic suspension gubbins.........

The pannier frames only fit with the grab rails (which are about £150 a pair). If you look at the Givi fitting instructions they show that the grab rails have to be there. I tried to get Givi UK to make it clear that the frames don't fit the Z, but to no avail. They did send me a variety of spacers, but this wasn't satisfactory so I coughed up for the grab rails; once installed, the pannier frames fit perfectly.

Thanks for the input gents. I tried 10mm on each of the 4 grab rail mounting points and it all seems to fit nicely! I was a little concerned at just how much thread was being used, but it seems to be solid now.
I haven't looked having less packers on the front mounts but the racks are sitting nice and square and vertical, so safe to say I have a result!
I think I may try and find a local machine shop and get them to turn me some nice looking one piece spacers from stainless steel.
By the way, I contacted Givi UK who told me these PLR racks will fit both ES and non-ES bikes.
One other question is I was goung for the plastic Trekker bags but after seeing the Dolomiti bags, I thought I would go aluminium. The Dolomiti bags come with conversion fittings to suit, but I was wondering if the aluminium Trekker Outback bags come with the conversion parts too?

I’m still using the regular Samsonite suitcase-type Givi cases I’ve had for donkeys’ years, so I can’t help you there I’m afraid, but I’m sure someone else will know.

Givi Outbacks will NOT fit quick release frames and there is no adaptor kit. I think the Outback frames are a bigger diameter.

All is not lost however. If you want the look of the Outback panniers but want to keep the PLR frames you could go for Kappa 37ltr K-Venture Panniers which come with an adaptor plate for the PLR frames. Kappa are Givi's sister company.

Sorry about the previous post, tried to send it from my phone and it somehow sent itself while I was trying to edit it! So, here is what I was trying to post............

Just an update, I bought myself a set of 36 litre capacity Givi Dolomiti cases and they arrived today. They come with adapters to fit the PLR rails and within 20 minutes I had a nice new set of luggage on my bike!

I have to say that the Givi Dolomiti cases look very good and well made for the money and they will suit my needs nicely I think. I wanted a set of Bumots but, with the 2nd. hand racks that I bought from a forum member, the whole lot cost me £500.00 against £900.00 for the Bumots.

The Dolomitis are not symmetrical, the exhaust side sits 3/4" further out than the other side but is not too noticeable at all and the whole lot is about the width of the handlebars, so I am pretty happy and all set for my trip to Holland, Germany and Poland in a couple of weeks time!
