We have all had the question concerning being able to remove the side panels without first removing the various brands of crash bars. I sent a query off to GIVI a week or so ago and received a response this morning. The following is a direct cut and paste:
===================================================
Hi Rod,

Sorry for the delay in reply but as the TN355 engine guard kits have not been made available to us at this time we had to research this information from our R&D department in Italy. Apparently these engine guards will be available from Italy in approximately 10 days.

I have been informed that a key element in the development of the TN355 engine guards was the consideration of the removal of the side panels, although the side panels cannot be removed without removing the engine guard the engine guards have been developed to offer easy side removal without having to remove the whole assembly. The TN355 are larger than those issued by Yamaha therefore offering far more protection. An issue that has arisen with the smaller designed Yamaha engine guards is although they allow the removal of the side panels without taking off the engine guard they have been criticized for their lack of protection.

With confirmation they will be available very soon we hope to have the fitting instructions in advance of their delivery and this may shed more light on their removal.

I hope this answers your question, if you require any additional information please do not hesitate to contact me.

Many thanks,

Paul Collins

It's still somewhat vague to me what the final answer is. It sounds like you do not have to remove the ENTIRE crash bar setup, but really falls short of stating that you can remove the panels without ANY dis-assembly of the crash bars. Sounds like you can remove parts of the setup to allow removal of the side panels.

Thanks for sharing,,

I read it that both side panels will be blocked by the guards, and you can remove the guards by not removing both sides
at the same time.

It seems that there is a problem with making the guards so the panels can come off. I sure wish I had a bike to look at.

I sent the guy another note:

Paul,

So, if I read this correctly, you would still have to remove parts of the crash bars to provide access to each side panel - but not the entire crash bar setup. Is this correct?

Thanks much for checking into this for me. There are a lot of future Super Tenere owners looking for crash bars that will allow access to the side panels, etc.

Rod

And His reply:

Hi Rod,

From the reply I received that is correct.
=====================

So, that is all we know now.

I install the Givi crash bars and you don't have to remove them in order to remove the side panels. I also like them because they are not huge and provide excellent cover.

Ah, good photo of the Givi bars ^^. I ordered them through revzilla last week. They’re supposed to be here Wednesday according to UPS tracking. :)

Can you post the diameter of the Givi bars? I have a bracket that is 1 1/8" for some highway pegs and wondered if will fit these bars. Thanks.

diameter is much closer 1" , 25.6mm, measured with calipers, maybe .2mm extra is the paint...a long way from 1-1/8"

bloke tell me more about these bars. I like the minimal look and if access is as you say I may just get a set. I was dead set on not doing a crash bar but these look okay. So you can remove both side panels? if so is it super tight on the right side? I am not too concerned about the left side but would like to get it off without removing the bars. Left side must be pulled out a little anyway to get at the tank bolts. How was the fit?

thanks

Bloke, could you post some pics from the front and from the seat forward looking at the bars. Just trying to get a feel for the fit of these bars. Thanks.

Thanks for the extra pics. I like the fact of being able to get the covers off without taking off a crash bar. I think mounting a highway peg will be easy on these too. I just ordered from Amotostuff for $144 plus shipping $165 total methinks. Cheaper than lots of my farkles for pretty big bang for the buck (if works out good).

Hi blocke, those Givi bars look great and like them better than all the others. I wanted to ask you if you believe highway pegs can be installed on these bars, in a way that you can comfortably place your feet and relax your legs. After looking at your pictures I’m not so sure. Thanks
