We have all had the question concerning being able to remove the side panels without first removing the various brands of crash bars. I sent a query off to GIVI a week or so ago and received a response this morning. The following is a direct cut and paste:

Hi Rod,
Sorry for the delay in reply but as the TN355 engine guard kits have not been made available to us at this time we had to research this information from our R&D department in Italy. Apparently these engine guards will be available from Italy in approximately 10 days.
I have been informed that a key element in the development of the TN355 engine guards was the consideration of the removal of the side panels, although the side panels cannot be removed without removing the engine guard the engine guards have been developed to offer easy side removal without having to remove the whole assembly. The TN355 are larger than those issued by Yamaha therefore offering far more protection. An issue that has arisen with the smaller designed Yamaha engine guards is although they allow the removal of the side panels without taking off the engine guard they have been criticized for their lack of protection.
With confirmation they will be available very soon we hope to have the fitting instructions in advance of their delivery and this may shed more light on their removal.
I hope this answers your question, if you require any additional information please do not hesitate to contact me.
Many thanks,
Paul Collins

It's still somewhat vague to me what the final answer is. It sounds like you do not have to remove the ENTIRE crash bar setup, but really falls short of stating that you can remove the panels without ANY dis-assembly of the crash bars. Sounds like you can remove parts of the setup to allow removal of the side panels.
