So Saturday was fun....

Driving down the freeway in the left most regular travel lane 3pm full sunlight. Accident in the HOV lane (cones, 3 troopers, lots of flashing lights etc). I slow to allow a 2-3 car gap for the person in front of me in the HOV to slide over. They do, but then they slow for no damn reason. I get on the brakes. Guy behind moves from the HOV into my lane and slams into the back of me at 30+ MPH speed differential.

I'm okay, Kept it upright ( god only knows how). Thankfully the big GSA luggage rack and engine guards saved my ass.

Call their insurance today, and the agent says "hes claiming you cut him off and he had no option". My response was easy.... "Would you like to see the video?" 3 minutes later they are accepting full responsibility and the inspector will be here in a day or so. Getting rental bike tomorrow!

Luggage rack, engine guard, plastic seat mount thing, maybe the subframe are toast ($4-5,000) But the kicker is there is now a vibration, something rotating mass, so like drive shaft (bent swing arm?) or something internal engine. Bike might be done. At least I can shop for a S10 this time and not be locked into a must buy something today situation.

I showed him!!! Took out his radiator!

Dang! Glad you're OK.
I'm investing in a front and back facing dvr system for my bike. I can never remember to turn on my GoPro so I want something that comes on when I start my bike. Doesn't need to be 4k quality (I assume) as long as the insurance company can clearly see who is at fault, correct?

Had a simular experience with my Harley. I parked in front of my Bank Along the curb. A woman hit my bike. On the surface it did not seem serious but appearances can be deceiving and out of an abundance of caution against her objections we exchanged information.. she fought me on this. Told her I had her plate and a pic of her.

I had 2 k of damage. The insurance company informs me the lady claims she never hit me. They also claim the damage was preexisting.

I calmly told them they were making a mistake. I have 25 years in the car industry and know my way around an insurance claim.

1. If I was not hit why Am I talking to you. How did I obtain her info?
2. My dealership just saw my bike and will stipulate no damage.
3. I have a great deal of money on deposit with the bank and will make the video available upon request.
4. Perjury and insurance fraud are not small crimes given your clients dishonest nature I figure you will be rolled under the bus.

5. I had a full settlement within 1 hour no questions asked.

Never just lye down stand your ground if you are in the right. You will be surprised.

Thanks, me too!
No need for anything fancy. Someone might know more than me, but as long as you can see I was in a lane and not moving over on someone or whatever, didn't cut them off, didn't brake check them, that sort of thing. Suggestion, keep quiet about it if in an accident let your lawyer handle if it needs to come out. Only reason I gave it to the other insurance company is I knew without even the slightest doubt I was in the clear (other driver was cited for multiple offences)

I know there are alot of front rear systems in the $200 range on amazon. If they are anything like car systems, they are all the same in the parts that actually do the work. Same chip set, same cameras. I'd look at the reviews and pick the one with the most non fake ones.

Funny you say that. I just had the tire shop put new rubber on it 2 days beforehand. So if anything comes from "preexisting" they take pictures before working on anything, had them email them to me. For once being lazy and not changing them myself pays off!!

im thinking I've read that most fatality accidents are single rider no car involved..... but having said that , left turning cars or cars potentially turning left are a butt checking moment .

@Sierra1 and I were talking accidents involving motorcycles. Not single vehicle "I did dumb and out rode my skill level". Single vehicle stuff for sure would have to be speed into corners. Number two would probably be speed into inanimate objects. Sure there are a billion cases of dropping the bike at the end of the driveway or residential street at a stop sign. But no way to get report numbers on those type of things.

Can anyone recommend a camera setup mounting on the bike? I'm not looking for glamour videos, but have been investigating what's in the market. Honestly, there's a ton out there and I have no idea what may be good or not.

My primary motivation is simply recording for possible crashes with other vehicles. I guess some glamour videos would be fun, but not my priority.

Thanks,
Eville Rich

single rider is single vehicle where a rider crashes himself to his on detriment or doom. not meaning to distract from reason for a camera system on a bike for ones on legal protection .... may need to add a system to my bike at some point.
as a professional driver , I see accidents of all kinds on the highways .... mostly rear enders . more than what one would normally see . stop and go traffic , yep bumping or being bumped can happen . but on the interstate , its every day and multiple vehicles . and it is a concern even motorcyclist should have . I suspect cell phones and relying on self braking cars that may not brake quite enough.

Without getting two technical, there are two options:
1. High quality, high cost
2. Meh quality, low cost

The high cost options all use quality cameras and image sensors. The result is something that could be used for YouTube.

The low cost options all use one of about 3 or 4 image sensors, so they're all pretty similar.
If you go the low cost route, look for something called Starvis, Sony IMX323 or Sony 303. Those are the top of the bottom, so to speak.
From what I have seen online, they aren't good for anything more than to help you in a court case. Image is decent and those mentioned have decent low light quality. Should be able to record a license plate if needed.

I just picked one up on Aliexpress on sale for just over $75 after all discounts. The store is called "VSYSTO Official Store". The sale runs through the 12th.

Been on mine for 5 years since this thread was posted. I check every now and then to just make sure it still works.

Well the BMW is 90% for sure dead. Insurance inspector called to set appointment for tomorrow. So I called BMW to get a drop off and rental time. They won't look at it even for the initial inspection till 3rd week in January. No way the insurance company is paying $14,000 rental on a $20,000 bike. So go through the motions I guess
