There’s some nice rides to be had from the Hellensborough area down the side of loch gaol looking down into faslane etc. If you’re lucky you might see a sub coming in or out. Very wild coastline but with reasonable roads. Often overlooked. Then Loch Lomond which is a bit more touristy but very pretty and of course you have to ride around Loch Ness

Are you going to ride the NC500? Haven’t done myself yet but it looks good

I went to Scotland on the bike for a week, in 2018 and 2019. It’s a stunning place, with great roads and some proper epic scenery. We rented a house in Fort Augustus and day tripped out from there each day, with round trips of 120 to 200 miles. We also stayed out overnight when we visited Jon O Groats.

Done lots of the NC500, which in the main is pretty good, however much of it is single lane with frequent passing points. Whilst still enjoyable, it’s not the twisty flowing stuff us biker types like. Note, it’s not ALL single lane, but plenty is.

I’ll check out some of the routes I did and add on to this post....

Invergarry - A87 all the way to Skye. Eilean Donan castle en route.

A835 to Ullapool.

A890 from Nostie to Strathcarron and onto Applecross.

A830 Fort William to Mallaig. Glenfinnan Viaduct en route.

The A832 to and beyond Gairloch.

There are so many good roads, you’ll struggle not to find them. Although not a huge problem, I saw more deer in Scotland, some of them big deer, than any other trip I’ve been on, and I’ve been riding across lots and lots of Europe since the mid 80s. Just beware!

. . . . If you’re lucky you might see a sub coming in or out. . . .
Does the UK use Holy Loch for subs? I know the US used to use it for Tridents, but I think I read somewhere they discontinued that. I was on a 688, so never got the pleasure to go there.

Local RoSPA group up every year, I went last May, on 5 days so it's a busy one.
Day 1 Glan Usk Cafe to Kelso
Day 2 Kelso to Portree Isle of Skye
Day 3 Portree to Ullapool (via Apple Cross)
Day 4 Ullapool to Drymen
Day 5 Drymen to home

The must see places for me where Glen Coe of course and Balach Na Ba, the pass over Apple Cross. If you like single track roads it's stunning. You could easily spend a day on the Isle of Skye too, so many views and great roads.

Some of the boys are going up on the 15th September, Lisa and I were booked to go but I've pulled out of it, loads going on.

Retired a year ago and there was supposed to be a big Euro ride for me this summer.

Ahh well. Once 2020 is past.

I rented a 1 bedroom cottage for 5 days a few miles up from Portree on Skye, awesome. First time going there are lots of options. Your problem is Oban as it pulls you out of shape. I wouldnt try to do any of the Nc 500 deal. Plus it could be busy. Rob Argyle is really nice, as your going to Oban you could do all the coast of it ( but not Bute ) and end up in Oban. From there i would ride up to Fort Augustus ( or just before it ) stop over. Then take the Old Military Road on the right side of Loch Ness its a single track mostly but your right next to the water and its much quieter. Follow that road then peel off right before Inverness pick up th A9, then i would ride around the Cairngorms, pick up rhe B970 from Coylumbridge and head North to Nethy Bridge then Tommintol, Cock Bridge, Ballater, Braemar, from there Pitlockry is nice place to stay. Fitting in the A82 with Glencoe is a detour aswell. Scotland is kinda the more you try to do the less you see sort of place. Im sure there will be more suggestions, but what i put up there takes in alot of great roads and scenery. Oh and i havent even mentioned the local tipple.

We moved them when we found out they were being used solely used to house Single Malt. Naturally the Single Malt was disposed of humanely, possibly with a Cigar.

Skye is amazingly beautiful. In fact, the West Coast of Scotland has some of the finest scenery I have seen.

If you ever get the opportunity take the Mallaig to Fort William train just before sunset. Port side***. Breathtaking.

TBH I want to go again, at least three times. ***Starboard side sunset (I was glued to the port side so it may be better :D). And, port and starboard side during the day.
