Standard suspension not an ES. At least US spec no heated grips but otherwise the same. Should have cruise control.

Did the Gen 2 have sub models ? like not having ES or Cruise Control, im considering buying this

Or is it a late Gen1 ?

Thanks Cantab
The 2015 you have shown is a gen 1. The quickest giveaways are orange indicator lenses and an analogue tachometer. Ok you can't see the tacho on that pic but the indicator lenses tell me enough. The mirrors are different between generations too but it is easy to swap mirrors around, so is not a reliable pointer.

Edit: went through the rest of the pics in the ad. You can see the analogue tachometer. It's a gen 1.

Wonder if it was a typo or if they really don't know it is not a '15. Looks like the 2012's Impact Blue.

We have this in the UK. The declared year of the bike is the year it was registered. If it's a 2013 model that was sat in a crate for 2 years it will be registered as a 2015. It can easily catch out the unaware. With my Vstrom the model code gave the year of manufacture away. I had an DL650AK9 (2009 with ABS) so could verify the year. I don't know if Yamaha do this.

All Gen II bikes should have cruise control.
2014 on ES was available and added heated grips standard. ES also has a right side cover.

Gen I bikes did not come with factory cruise control.

Does that mean a bad ad as it is listed as a 2015?

Edit: Just read the year in the UK is first registered nothing to do with when built model year.

I suspect the bike has sat for a while and it was first registered new in 2015.

VIN: JYADP017XDA000219

Engine No: P401E0015946

MVMA Model Code: XT1200ZD

Registration
Registration Status: Active
Plate: B8BFN
Plate Type: Standard
Origin: NZ New
Used as: Private Passenger vehicle
Cause of Latest Registration: New
NZ First Registration: 26-Aug-2015
NZ Last Registration: 26-Aug-2015
Was Registered Overseas? No

I paid for a plate check , it gives other details to like ownership history (2) but not actual manufactuer build date.

Thanks for your replies fella's

I thought I remembered that UK registration thing. It still bothers me. That's exactly what happened, New Old Stock, NOS, first registered in '15. Strange how bureaucrats think sometime. Being that it was last registered in '15, are there fines involved to get it back on the road?

Not sure about New Zealand but from the uk perspective the date of first registration can mean that the vehicle was imported and previously registered in another country. On officially imported vehicles it will normally be declared new at first registration. If it has sat in a crate unassembled for two years is it technically new? As you say it is NOS. Based on the NZ data shown further up the page I would suggest it means that the bike has only been registered once, in 2015, and that is the only time it has been registered. It is not unregistered now. The vehicle index (reg number) is shown. As I understand it, in the USA a person owns "tags" and you register them to a vehicle. In the UK the vehicle gets a registration number which contains a "year number" identifier based on the year the registration was made (not when the vehicle was made) and that lives with the vehicle even when you sell it. Private plates (vanity tags) complicates things as far as the original registration number is concerned but that is how it works. Unless Yamaha puts a clearly visible year of manufacture on the bike people could still get caught out.

So in NZ the plate stays with the bike in general, registration or rego is usually a one off payment for the plate, then you pay a licencing fee , if you dont keep this up to date you will be fined and demerits i think if caught by parking wardens or the Police, also you need a WOF (warrant of fitness - road worthiness test) beore you can re-licience, WOFS are yearly after the vehicle is 3yrs old.
A vanity plate can be passed on with the vehicle or kept, if latter YOU will need to purchase a new plate (s) about $20 NZ
Plates here do not represent a 'year'

If a vehicle is written off by an insurance company (and usually de registered) and you buy it to fix and put back on the road you have to get it re-certified for roadworthyness before a new plate is released. This will normally be shown on its records.

If you dont keep up the reg after a year it will automatically be cancelled and be a real pain to sort but doable.

If you plan on not using your vehicle for say a re build or being away you can put the licence/reg on hold for a year and if you need more thats ok you just pay a small fee and go again - minimum time is 3months.
