" I would do the following (now I cannot because, took out a kidney a week ago:)) "

I hope that you are going to be OK!!
Thanks ... I’m recovering very well .... We are always looking to modify or improve things. .... After the surgery, the surgeon explained to me what they had done. Extracting was the best way to avoid something bad in the future. So I began to think:cool::... Now with only one kidney, I have an unoccupied "renal artery" ..... What would happen if we do a direct bypass of that artery to the penis? (With some type of valve under the skin) ... ..it would be a kind of "overboost":):)
When i need “extra power”..I push the button,:):)

Before you guys get into a heated debate about clutch switches and the gear indicator, realize the clutch switch has nothing to do with showing what gear you are in. If you shift without even using the clutch the gear indicator STILL goes to dashes for a moment. Like jbrown alluded to earlier, the gear position shown on the dash is a combination of engine RPM and wheel rotation. As soon as that combination is disturbed in any way, the screen goes to dashes, or, in the case of what WJBertrand did, if you slip the clutch and hit the right combination of RPM and wheel speed, it will show whatever gear that represents.

You MUST be recovering well to be thinking of ideas like that. As I become older, that "overboost" would be very useful. Not sure I'd trade a kidney for it (at least at this point).

I am glad that you are recovering, and that your sense of humor is intact. That is one hell of a set of sutures!

Good luck!!

Ok, that makes sense then. The clutch switch therefore has no bearing on the gear indicator function. Theoretically then, one should be able to pull the clutch in whilst coasting and then play with the throttle to get any number of false gear number indications.

if we eliminate clutch sensor ? whats the effects ? probably will not start ,check engine light, cruise control wont work ...
@Vasos - Welcome to the forum. Please take a moment to add your location to your profile. It gives context to your posts and helps others give better answers since there are some differences between US bikes, Canadian bikes and EU bikes.

The simple and direct answer to your posts is that you can't have what you want. You will cause more problems than you solve if you start disconnecting things. Because there is no actual gear selection sensor, there is no way for the software Yamaha is using to display what gear the bike is in when the clutch is pulled in. I offer that you will learn to look before you pull the clutch in, or do what millions of riders have done before you at stops, down shift to first after you stop, and double check that before you let the clutch out by tapping the shift lever down.

Have the gear indicator on a couple bikes.... Cant recall ever really caring about em..... Or needing em to know my gear. That aside my guess is youd really only need em cruising..... Id guess if youre not sure if youre in 5th or 6th. Clutch use and it non op should be irrelevant. Other than that rpms and remembering 1st is all the way down on stops.

Recently installed a Healtech GIPRO X-Type gear indicator using their GPX-U01 harness kit on my '13 Super Tenere. Healtech provides a supplementary manual for 2010-2013 S.T's (with pictures) making installation relatively simple.

Hey, man! Really good to see someone RTFQ and actually provide some pertinent info one can use! Maybe there's a way for someone to edit the first post in a thread that points the way to the actual answer. I learned a lot from Checkswrecks various inputs (AND I hope he's still doing well this long after his surgery!!) but the actual answer was yours and most everything else was glad handing. Can't get by without these various forums (yeah, I know....fora but fuggeduhboudit!) but they can be a bit of a labor.
Checkswrecks input about the way Yamaha generates gear selection actually blew me away, I mean, who'duvthunk? I certainly didn't nor never would have, had not someone said that a software derivation was a valid way to do it. And, maybe had he (I say, "he" based on the pic he provided) known about the Healtech GIPRO X-Type gear indicator solution, I'm sure he'd have mentioned it along with the root cause of the problem.
But YOU did the trick. Now...assuming anyone reads this two year old response...how did the GIPRO solution work out?

For sure not a necessary item as we all have a pretty good idea what gear we are in with a glance at the tach but with stock exhaust and the music too loud I have tapped that magic seventh gear or ridden in the wrong range too many times, my bike is a tad louder now, so it is not really an issue, I am adding a MCCruise (lucky guys with it as standard ) and the gear indicators are cheap so while I have the bike all apart I will add one. I will take pictures of how I do the install if anybody wants to see them as I have gotten a lot of knowledge from this group.
