Garmin is draining my battery

I'm planning on getting a nice Neutrino Black Box and thinking on using the ignition to put power to the Garmin.
This what I use. I selected off with the ignition for the circuit that the GPS is connected to but with a 10 minute delay. This is usually enough time to complete a fuel stop without the GPS shutting down and fragmenting my track. With the Neutrino you can select any behavior you want by making the changes from the phone app. No need to mess with the wires once everything is connected.

Those black boxes are cool, but *GAD* the price! $250-$350 for a power distribution box was just out of my range. I think I'll be an Eastern Beaver customer for a while yet, unless I can find plans for a DIY electronic fusebox...

My Garmin 660 is on a switched supply. Turns on automatically with the key and asks with key off if it should stay on internal battery. You have 30 seconds to say on or it turns off.

So I can run the Garmin battery dead but not the bike!

(Unless you kill it with the side stand and walk into the restaurant. In that case the Garmin wii drain the battery. Or maybe the lights!)

Just buy the correct connector and wire the cradle into the 3 pin plug already existing on the motorcycle. 1/2A draw though does not sound normal. Seems 1/2A may be charging the GPS battery which is easy to see, but after battery is charged the draw should be pretty small.

A half an amp does seem way high if it was just parasitic draw. I'd expect that to be more in the range of milliamps, like in the 15 mA range. That's in line with what a USB might draw.

I installed an Easter Beaver 3 wire kit made for the S10 (2 always on, one switched). My Montana 680 is wired to the switched circuit and I have it set to turn off after 30 seconds once key is switched off. Seems to work pretty well.
