The 12 volt aux socket on the Tenere is fused at either 2 or 3 apps. This limits the output , so all one can use it for is a GPS or a dash video camera.
I installed a 12 volt handle bar socket to power my portable air pump. The pump draws a lot more power than the OEM plug could handle.
When I need to inflate a tyre, I simply connect the battery tender cable into the 12 volt handlebar socket.

FYI, there is a sleeve provided with some 12V gadgets to help Euro-style and American-style plugs and sockets work together. It's a simple plastic sleeve with notches cut out to allow the springy contacts on the side of the plug to still contact the walls of the receptacle, and the sleeve simply takes up the slop that would otherwise allow the tip to wander off the contact in the center of the well. I've got one around here somewhere - it's not a waterproof solution by any means, but it helps with the intermittent contact.

My receptacle was rusty, but a quick shot of "Must for Rust" spray and a lengthy wipe-down and polish with shop rags brightened it right back up again.

I used a ziplock bag to cover Garmin Nuvi 1450 when riding in rain, I used that 1450 for over 300,000 miles, it did get wet a bunch of times because it wasn’t covered but it kept working, after I finally bought a waterproof Zumo I gave the Nuvi to one of my brothers and he is still using it on his Goldwing.
I highly recommend buying a Garmin Zumo XT when it’s on sale for $399.00 which is $100 off the regular $499.00 price.

I have been using a zumo since 2005. First the 550 it was refurbished once with a new screen. Now I have a 595. Being hard wired waterproof, programmable routes and music on board is a must for me. Terrible sense of direction.

They are not cheap but are the right tool for the job. 17 years and still counting negates the expense.

We have one guy we ride with that uses a car Garmin. Everyone else uses zumos. He has gotten separated from us a few times. And we have lost quite a bit of time trying to hook back up with him. When you are doing a 3 week trip 8 or 10 thousand miles dropping 3 to 5 k on the trip loosing 2 or tree days over a GPS is silly and frustrating.

One last thought. If the unit distracts you because of mounting or power issues, The results could be devastating.
