Hello my UK friends I’ve got a question for you. here in the Netherlands there is all over the news for a few days now that the UK has got fuel shortages due to lack of truck drivers? And people are now hoarding fuel?

Is this true?

Stefan.

Media did that too with toilet paper over here in the beginning of Covid. That kind of behavior doesn’t help shortages.
People are a strange species…

I guess in terms of volume there is enough fuel in the UK but the hoarding makes it impossible to keep up?

Ah and the oil companies push the prices skywards because of demand… I hope the idiocy doesn’t travel over water to the east…
Good luck there Rob, I could airmail you a gallon if you run out ;)

The irony is there is no problem with supply. Only moving it

It should only be short term. And to be fair i wouldn't call it panic buying more essential buying.

We had the toilet paper thing over here. And, there was a fuel "shortage" for maybe a week. But, that was quite awhile ago. Nothing recent. The biggest issue over here, is that we can't get people to work. They're making more on unemployment. Many restaurants have reduced hours because of no staff. Grocery store only had five lanes open, out of 30. It took about 20 minutes to get out once you got in line.

Back in the 70s when we had the fuel shortages, late night talk show host, Jonny Carson joked during his opening monologue that “all you have to do to create a shortage is to announce it”. He then went on to ponder “what if there was a shortage of toilet paper?” That got chuckles from the audience but a global run on toilet paper over the next few days. A few days later he was on the air telling everyone it was just a joke.

I think the TP panics today are still rooted in Jonny Carson’s joke, way back then!

Yes it’s true, services on the motorways have run out of petrol and especially diesel fuel. So now, as well as allegedly not having enough drivers, they don’t have the fuel for the lorries either! This country has gone made since Brexit and they blame it all on Covid-19 but the truth is that the Government are lurching from crisis to crisis and they don’t have a clue what to do. Every time one of them says anything, you just know it is a lie. I could say more but I would probably get into trouble for being too political!
