Anybody pull the fuel pump assembly out of the tank? I know somebody has, couldn't find it. What's it take to get the sender out of there? The fuel level sensor tabbed onto the side of the thing is seriously in the way. Come on, I know it's got to be a simple trick... ::010::

When the 2012 fuel pump o-ring recall came out I ordered the o-ring and did the job myself. I don't remember it being a tough job getting the fuel pump out, sorry I don't remember more details.. I may have squeezed it a little to clear the hole in the tank.

Thanks Greg, it's BWC, LOL. Pm'd him. He's the one that had the fuel filter location pictures, isn't he? I'll try a search on the filter...

No go. There is an image of the top half separated from the rest of the pump...

Looks like these pics. might be of some use to someone.
In the fall after our return ride from Arkansas we had some rough idle issues .When all electrical checked out we pulled the fuel pump to have a look. You just need a small screwdriver to carefully pry the plastic tab back that is holding the pump in. I think its there to stop you pulling the pump out to quickly and damaging the fuel sensor float arm?

And for those with a weak stomach for such things, look away now as this is some of the crap that I backflushed from the internal fuel filter. ???

The pump on the left is an Ebay purchase to see if it would be a suitable backup replacement for mine as the OEM is pretty pricey. It is a Denso pump with the correct part number and other than having the wrong Oring installed where the pump enters the filter housing it is the correct pump. Doug C got one also as his OEM pump filter was worse than mine and hes been running the Ebay pump and filter for a while now. I haven't installed the new one yet as the original is working fine after it was cleaned. Maybe a fuel filter bypass mod might have to be thought about in the future, which has been done on other bikes.

And the filter screen at the bottom of the pump pick up. We have sourced another supplier for this filter, but no luck on the main filter as it is sold with the fuel pump as an assembly. I will have to find the part number for the filter screen and post it up.

Link for replacement aftermarket fuel pump filter screen on right.

Check the thread, "Stuck in Andalusia, Alabama with a dead ST", I have pics posted there of the assembly. There is nothing serviceable except maybe the fuel level meter. R&R entire assembly otherwise.

I found a pump in an auto parts catalog that was identical in appearance, but had different pressure. I was researching how it is regulated when Y.E.S. warranty came through, so i never went any farther with it. I now add fuel treatment-water dispersant occasionally. My pump and filters were gunked up with black stuff and the pump was low on pressure. That is why YES stepped up. Thank you Y.E.S.! Be aware that fuel injected vehicles can quit just like the ignition switch was turned off. Leaving you stranded on the side of I-40 like I was! No sputter, no miss, DEAD! Makes you think twice before passing on double yellow.
