Hi Scott, yes I did. Just now again. Unfortunately, although rather thorough, not what I was looking for. However it seems like the only option we have then is to replace and not to fix. Thank you for being vigilant.

You can rule out ABS. the ABS system could be completely non functioning and your brakes will work perfectly fine with the exception of no anti-lock feature.
Are you sure about that? I read the manual where it says that, even says by killing the power the you will have brakes. Sorry man, you are wrong......So have you had replaced and ABS unit?

Just a follow up.

The Yamaha repair shop ended up replacing the ABS module and it fixed the problem. I feel like they did their due diligence to diagnose the problem. They had multiple techs look at it. They even hooked up the lines to effectively by-pass the ABS module. As soon as the ABS module was re-introduced into the braking system the problem immediately returned.

Like one other poster here stated I feel like that a failure in any part of the ABS system shouldn't result in complete brake failure (just the actual anti-lock component) but apparently that was the case here. I really think that some type of debris or something caused the ABS pump to "jam" or something. I have the old part but have not had the time to even looked to see if it is possible to tear into it to try and confirm what actually happened.
report it to NTSB......seriously man.

I have exactly the same issue with my front brake freezing up. I have read a couple of threads but I have not seen what the final cause and remedy for the issue was?
Was there any feedback on what caused it and how it was fixed?
Look 2 posts up. He said his ABS unit had some malfunction and was causing a lockup/pressure issue. I don't see anything about dismantling the ABS unit to find the actual cause though. Honestly, I'd want Yamaha to tell me why it failed as that's unnerving knowing the unit can cause brake failure like that. I worked on a guys BMW 800? One of the oddball bikes that had ABS. His unit failed due to the brake lines INNER rubber breaking apart. Little bits of rubber were getting lodged in the smaller orifaces at random times and causing havoc and terror on the road. I was able to pull apart his whole ABS unit and get everything out and it was good as new after we replaced the lines with steel braided aftermarket ones. Thanks to this post, I'll be cycling my ABS unit...I don't use it enough, but I DO replace brake fluid every season, so I should be OK.
