Your picture reminded me. . . . Stone Cold Steve Austin had these on his show the other day; Tomahawk Steaks.
1614656780358.png It's basically a rib eye, with the rib left long. I don't think there's a taste difference, but it cost extra for the novelty of the uncut bone. I'm not spending the extra, but didn't know if any of y'all had tried them.

Your post reminds me of my wrestling name, Stone Cold Craft Beer. Where I crack open a growler, pour the freshly crafted dry hopped IPA in to a fancy challis to admire its rich amber colour with a lasting gaze and the fruity hops with a deep inhale, then I talk about it for 45 minutes... HAHAHA (also, I don't do this... ever)

I have tried them.
They are the same as the ones without the bone, but you can usually find the "Tomahawk" ones about twice as thick.............also referred to as a "Cowboy Steak"
They are usually too pricey for me to buy them.

About what I figured. A thick steak is good, but there come a point that it get too thick to cook properly. . . . depending on whether you still want it moo-ing, or not.

I took a custard dish and filled it with the rice, so it's a medium portion, not a Sierra size portion. :D But we had more for seconds for you brother!

Used the left over white rice and some left over ham for ham fried rice tonight. Came out MMmmmmm good. Sorry for the blurry cell phone pic.
Garlic powder, chili powder, ginger, fresh ground pepper, peas and carrots, ham, egg and some low sodium soy sauce. Should have tossed some fresh green onion on top.

Did a small (3-lb) Corned Beef Brisket for dinner yesterday.

IMG_8904.JPG

Seasoned it up, and Vacuum-sealed it.

IMG_8911.JPG

In the Sous-Vide bath for 35 hours at 155-degrees F.

IMG_8922.JPG

It doesn't look very appetizing when it first comes out.

IMG_8943.JPG

Smoked it for an hour and a half at 300 F.

Now we're talkin!

IMG_8945.JPG

It was "Fall-Apart" tender, and had a nice crispy bark on it!

IMG_8946.JPG

Served with some mixed-veggies, and some "Veggie-Tots" and a little spicy mustard on the side.
Was super delicious!

I have a 5-lb one in the freezer when I'm ready to do another one

Camping during long trips does not keep me from cooking
You n me both! Some great one pot food on camping trips.

I was on the West Highland Way, coming out of the woods at the north end of Loch Lomond, when I saw a guy scurrying about. When I got to him, I asked him what he was up to and he showed me three carrier bags full of porcini mushrooms. He gave me 5 and off he scurried. An Italian man and, although this was 1994ish, I am sure it was Jamie Oliver's friend Genaro...

Anyway, the next morning, butter, garlic, salt, ground pepper - there may have been some fresh parsley... Cooking away, two girls came along and asked what the aroma was, so I said to go grab a plate. Later, they came back and said it was one of the best breakfast's they'd had. (I must admit it was delicious)

We could have met: I was hiking the WHW around that time. Didn't see any mushrooms though (wasn't looking for them either)
I went at the end of Aug/beginning of Sept, to avoid the midges. I walked with a German guy for a day, but I like to walk on my own and deviate off every so often. I would recommend the walk to anyone that is moderately fit. It is a very easy walk, very backpacker friendly and well signposted.

I was very lucky in climbing Buachaille Etive Mor towards the end of the WHW. I had finished that days walk - an easy 13 miles on drover's (?) paths - pitched my tent and climbed up to the top. As I was appraching the summit a guy passed me on the way down.

He said: "First time?"
"Yes"
"You are so lucky! I've been up here twice a year, every year, for fourteen years and this is the best it has ever been!!"

It was. Perfectly clear 360 degree views over Rannock Moor and I could even see Ben Nevis. Pissed down that night though and the weather was so bad I read a book for a day!Buachaille Etive Mor.jpg
