http://www.pipestemresort.com/

Lodging: Two lodges with motel-like rooms, RV and tent camping aplenty. Food and beverage, including gourmet dining, available on site. Unfortunately, cottage cabins are only available for rental by the week this time of year; but if you are up for a longer stay, they would be happy to help.

Fuel and other food choices nearby.

What: Ride, Eat, Sleep, Repeat

extrememarine with an assist from clocklaw has taken on the yeoman’s task of organizing a FODS T-shirt:

A downloadable order form in Word format can be accessed here:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/sht2rypufu92kza/FODS%202015%20Shirt%20Order%20Form.docx?dl=0

To purchase, please follow all directions on the form and e-mail to extrememarine as indicated.

T-shirts will be shipped to WV and arrive in time for the meet. If you wish to order a shirt but cannot attend, PM your shipping address to spklbuk and I will figure out a way to get it to you.

Many thanks to you extrememarine and clocklaw.

Yes there is a apt story behind the twist on the new FODS 2015 acronymn.

Communal Grub: A Saturday evening meal and get together may be added to the works once an idea of how many attendees is better established.

Other Activities: The Park offers golf, horseback riding, hiking and more…things to do within the park http://www.pipestemresort.com/recreation.html.
Lots to do and see nearby. Additional ideas for alternative activities: WV Tourism http://www.wvtourism.com/default.aspx, New River Gorge Travel and Vacation Planning http://newrivergorgecvb.com/, Visit Southern WV http://visitwv.com/, Greenbrier County Convention and Visitors Bureau http://greenbrierwv.com/,

Riding: Routes range from pig trails to pure twisty delight and all road types in between; a little sumpin’ sumpin’ for everyone. These paths are only suggestions. Please use your best judgment, if a segment of any suggested route is not comfortable for you, plot a work around. Ride your own ride!

If it is rated trails you crave Burning Rock http://burningrockwv.com/ and Hatfield and McCoy Trails (Pocahontas and Pinnacle Trails) http://www.trailsheaven.com/ are within striking distance.

Everyone and all bikes are welcome; we have routes for you! Come join in the fun and have a good time in those WV hills (and maybe one or two western VA hills as well)!

::012:: Update as of 6/17/2014 and added to post # 1.

Lodging

Under the group name "FODS 2015", I reserved 10 non-smoking lodge rooms for single/double occupancy per room per night at Mountain Creek Lodge with arrival on Thurs, June 18, 2015 and departure on Sunday June 21, 2015. Each additional person 13 and older in the same room will be charged an additional fee per person per night.

Reservations for these rooms are available from now until May 18, 2015 at which time they will be released to the general public. Reservations may be made by calling 1-800-225-5962 or by dialing direct at (304) 466-1800 and ask to be connect to reservations. A deposit in the amount of the first night's lodging will be required at the time of individual reservations. The balance is due at check-in. Individual reservations may be cancelled 48 hours before arrival without penalty. 8) Cancellation inside the 48 hour window will be charged the first nights rental.

Mountain Creek Lodge is accessible only by Aerial Tramway. Tram tickets are included in the gig for those staying at Mtn Creek. While a unique aspect of the Pipestem experience and your stay will be slathered with a true wilderness ambiance once down in the Gorge, it does limit easy access to rooms during the day and is of course remote from the bike at night. The park is gated at 10 p.m. and patrolled at night so I personally do not see that as much of a concern. Also the tram operates from 8:00 a.m. to 10 p.m., so you are somewhat restricted in that regard, although park quiet hours begin at 10 p.m. anyway.

More info on Mountain Creek Lodge is found here: http://www.pipestemresort.com/accommodations.html

Camping

Under the same group name of FODS 2015, I have also reserved 16 campsites, 6 with full hookups and 10 with electric for those wishing to camp. Camping reservations can be made online @ https://res.travlynx.com/bbe/page1.aspx?pcode=H8PRSP or by calling 304-466-1800. More info on camping is found here: http://www.pipestemresort.com/rates_policies_camping.htm

Saturday Night Communal Grub

I am in the process of reserving a park picnic shelter for a "we will do it ourselves, thank you" Sat night group feed and bench racing. Menu is pending. After looking over the Pipestem food service "options", I am thoroughly convinced that with a little effort on the part of some intrepid volunteers we can do a better job and enjoy a hell of lot more freedom. I will have a cage and coolers available for grocery transport to and from nearby downtown Princeton. Bear in mind, the communal social will have wrap up around 9:30 p.m. to allow Mountain Creek Lodge residents time to get home for the night. The shelter closes promptly at 10 anyhow.

Y'all come to southern WV for a spell real soon now, heah!

This video, 3 Rivers The Bluestone, Gauley and New, produced by WV Public Broadcasting showcases the national treasure where FODS WV 2015 is being held...http://video.wvpubcast.org/video/2349308490/

It truly is a special place. Y'all come!

I am already booked for that weekend which stinks, as this ought to be a great time. If I can get free I am definitely coming.

If I can shake free from school and clinicals next summer, I will be there. Most of that riding is right in my "normal" backyard.

There are some other options for rides in the NRG area for those that like to take the Tenere a bit further off the improved roads that I will be happy to lead.

Trikepilot I'm gonna try to come to this and Romney. I'll follow you but you may have to help me pick this thing up.
I'm usually pretty good straight ahead with more throttle but turning around always gets me. ::025:: I'll put on some knobs before I come.

Nigh on to close 'nuff. Makes the terrain around Ft. Ashby look tame. ;) Hope to see you there! ::001::

Historic Hinton’s Hometown Radio 1830 AM http://www.radioam1380.com/ Trust me! FYI, they do a mid-morning gospel hour. Check out the live streaming for yourself here: http://radio.securenetsystems.net/v5/WMTD
Hinton’s Historic Ritz Theater http://ritzwv.com/ Dripping in atmosphere.
Pipestem Drive-in Theater An old fashioned drive-in movie theater but with digital projection. http://www.driveins.org/wv-athens-pipestem.htm Load up your camping chairs and relive your ill-gotten youth! And take your youth so they may experience a blast from your past.

Chow not to be missed along the planned routes:
The Market on Courthouse Square, Hinton, WV http://themarketwv.com/ You will hunt for days for food that is more fresh.
Big Daddy’s Family Restaurant, North Tazewell, VA https://plus.google.com/113392140947342936961/about?gl=us&hl=en
A little rough on the outside, but solid gold county cookin’ on the inside. Get the buffet. Ribs on Wed (I think) are outstanding. Prepare to waddle back to your bike!
Secret Sandwich Society, Fayetteville, WV http://visitwv.com/company/secret-sandwich-society/ A well-kept local secret!
Pies and Pints, Fayetteville, WV http://piesandpints.net/locations/fayetteville-wv Gourmet pizzeria

Chow close to the park
Brandon's BBQ just off WV20 and across from the main entrance to Pipestem State Park

Looking for a little more refined dining?

EDIT: Looking to move up on She Who Must Always Be Obeyed's list? These come highly recommended and will fit the bill perfectly. Especially Cass, though I'm biased; be sure to ask about the repair shop tour...http://www.transportation.wv.gov/rail/Pages/Tourist-trains.aspx

I was in Marion, about an hour and a half from Pipestem, in May. This is a beautiful area of the country! Not sure what my schedule will be like in 2015, but this sounds like a good one! ::008::

Other Ontario Canucks that hang out on the FJR Rider Forum are headed this way...you could hook up with them and come join the fun. BTW, the Back of the Dragon with a little local flavor added is one of the suggested pavement routes out of Pipestem...Marion takes about 4 hours!

FODS WV Pie Run Route prequel. Though Mumsey's is designated as an adventure bike route, I highly recommend that everyone riding off road consider going to this area and spend a day exploring. Beech Knob / Cold Knob is the area where I originally planned FODS WV but could not work out lodging nearby. The 65 mile ride from Pipestem is well worth the effort.

Fill up with fuel before going in and just follow your nose on the never ending road network.

Picnic shelter officially reserved for a communal feed and bench racing on the evening of Sat June 20, 2015 from 6:00 to 9:30 pm.

Menu will likely be BBQ and fixin's from either http://www.brandonsbbq.com/ or http://www.atasteofmemphis.com/uploads/Catering_Menu_Update_9_11.jpg depending on a concensus from the tasting committee from this Sept's Bluestone get together and the corresponding cholesterol spike!

[Should you desire to be on the tasting committee see http://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?topic=12038.0]

The early wrapup hour will allow Mountain Creek Lodge residents to catch the tram home for the evening. Park quiet hours (remember, we are guests of the state) begin at 10 pm. It will give all ample time to rest up for the journey home on Sunday...

or to ride/recreate for those of us who might stay longer.

In my mind's eye, I can see a beautiful Almost Heaven laid back Sunday afternoon tubing in the Bluestone http://www.nps.gov/blue/index.htm as good therapy after two days of offroad riding. Pending water levels of course. Don't forget you water shoes!!
