Did you happen to see where that was made? I am assuming it was made in France but curious why they would go and swap to the old style signals. The Euro versions they showed across Canada had the stock Euro LED signals.

I am guessing they didn't want complaints after seeing how nice the LED's were, and we get stuck with the old ones.

Yes. It’s the French built bike. The blinkers are the US DOT. They have been changed out.

They did not install the US spec Nissin brakes. They left on the Brimbo brakes (euro spec).

I’m sure there are other ‘small’ changes. Lol

Cough-Cough, Like ECU software you can’t see.

Yamaha doesn't have much choice, as the US DOT requires a bigger number of square inches (6 sq.in.) for the turn signals than the EU does and iirc the US spec has them farther out from the edges of the headlights.

I understand that they have to meet certain specs, but why aren't the current T-12 signals being used?

I'm going to guess one of two things:

(1) They just happened to have the beach balls on hand when they got the bike to use for the show.

or

(2) The spec is in engineering terms so to get the lumens and other requirements with the distance from the headlights somebody calculated this is what they needed.

I'm going with #1.

Also hoping for option #1. The current T-12 design matches the T-7 more than the T-12.

If you’ve ever had to replace one of those LED turn indicators, their cost may be too high for Yamaha’s price target.

Did a reverse parts look up out of curiosity and the turn signals are used on a number of other Yamaha models, including the WR250, Tracer 900, FJ09, XSR900, etc

In this gif, you can see how sensitive the magnifying glass projector is to changes in angle with respect to the viewer. Both motorcycles use LEDs .... one is retropojected (ktm790) .. the other with a magnifying glass projector (T7) .....

I hate projection beams for anything but perfectly smooth pavement. Jlq's video shows why. Changing loads mess with the angle also. My favorite light ever was the one on the FJ. Good reflector, glass lens, and a 55/100w halogen bulb. Wide and far. Hardly ever over drove my headlight.
