Unfortunately I have killed 5 deer with motorcycles, very lucky to still be riding .
I and some of the other long timers here will remember that video as Fred was a member for a while who painted his bike in some day glow orange paint. That is a kite surfer on the side of it.After seeing this I got one. Deer are our bane of our lives. One killed the safety staff writer four cycle world. The guy in the video rides our bike. These things cost less than some helmets and can be used more than once.
I saw that happen in the Strom forum as well. Very well know member, actually contributed a lot to the board, including well thought out maintenance posts with lots of pictures. He started having and attitude change that was obvious. One day, everything was gone, including all the pinned maintenance threads (or at least the photos from them). He was a good guy, so I was a bit concerned about him. I had his email and checked in on him. He was just done. I was still concerned after talking to him. He's the guy who got fed up with all of us and deleted his history of posts in the middle of a night. He'd debate anybody on any subject so suddenly there were a lot of big holes in numerous threads. It was a bit bizarre.
My sailboat forum is on the same Xen Foro software and it turns out there is a "switch" the Admin can use to lock posts to prevent editing after a pre-set period of time. We only had the problem here the one time with Fred so no need to get drastic like that.I saw that happen in the Strom forum as well. For me it was riding between the two lodges up on Skyline Drive (north end of Blue Ridge Parkway). We had dinner at one lodge and had to ride back to our room at the other lodge. It got dark while we were eating and all those calm deer we'd seen right up next to the road, were now spooked and had all their kin with them. It ranks up there with the most uneasy even, scary thing I've ever done on a motorcycle. They were all around us. You could hear them snorting next to you, but you could not see them. I'm not sure we ever got to 2nd gear on that ride.I think the worst deer "infestation" that I've ever seen was the road between the Grand Canyon North rim and Jacob's Lake. Left the north rim at dusk, which turned to dark quickly. They were e v e r y w h e r e.
