Hi, I have the crash bar on the XT as shown in the first image.
I would also like to protect the left and right sides, the second photo shows that someone has mounted an extra Givi crash bar.
Does anyone have experience with this and should adjustments be made?
Maybe there are other options (brands) that also fit.
please share your ideas/options.

Greetings klaas.

My personal opinion? Ditch the OE’s and get yourself a pair of Altriders. I only have the lower set, but you can upgrade with a top half. Top quality and tested multiple times by yours truly.

not the best photo’s, but all I could find right now.

alt rider lowers are enough , but add the uppers and your over the top . they are very expensive , around 1200 dollars 'American" . alt rider no longer offer a skid plate for the super Tenere . and probably going to discontinue the crash bars . its sad that alt rider and tour tech have abandoned the xt1200z , but that seems the case..... T-rex is a company that offers good stuff for less money , but if you can get them and afford them , alt rider is top of the line.

if your keeping the standard oem bars, your only option is givi, and a company from spain called DS PROTECTION used to make the middle add on section for the oem bars but i think they have gone bust now

I originally had the Yamaha optional crashbars and skid plate, they worked ok but there was absolutely no upper plastic protection so a couple years ago upgraded to TRex Racing crashbars and skid plate and am very glad I did because last year up in Canada I managed to drop it very hard on it’s left side, without TRex there surely would have been left side plastic damage. Didn’t hurt anything other than pretty minor scuffing of the black crashbars.
The skid plate is nice plenty heavy duty steel and has a simple to remove or reinstall cover for the oil filter.
Looks like TRex must have lowered the price a little because I believe I paid close to $600.00 for mine.
I’m no mechanic so it took quite a while for me to install them but everything was fairly simple .
Ordered mine over the phone and the lady explained how to get a $50 discount by liking TRex on Facebook.
TRex makes an almost unbelievable list of items for all kinds of motorcycles !
I did post a link to TRex racing but for some unknown reason it only shows up as as super Tenere in blue letters so just click on that if you want to see the link, guess that must be some kind of recent upgrade somewhere in the computer world.

The crash bar from T-Rex was also on my mind.
costs 299.95 Dollar plus 300 Euro shipping costs plus Customs costs plus VAT.
too expensive.
Haven't found a dealer here in Europe yet.

I am probably the only one who will say this but, there's nothing wrong with adding Givi to the OEM cage. The Givi bottom bolts uses the same mounting points as the OEM system.

Now for the caveat: what are you using it for? Are you looking at riding hard packed logging roads, maintained dirt/gravel lanes, etc. or are you going to ride actual off road dirt, sand, mud, etc.?

Buy for the appropriate application. If you plan to ride rough areas, invest in good protection. If you're riding to coffee with the boys and down a dirt lane or two on a Sunday morning then save the money and run what you've got or add the Givi.

Just my 2 cents.

I'm saving the money and I think I go for the Givi or when still available the DS bracket.
In any case, I thank everyone for thinking along, options are still welcome.
Greetings from the Netherlands.

that skid plates also alt rider , not a week old . bought just for(the black Tenere taking a nap on the white rim trail. ) the trip as I knew I would be needing it . hit every rock in Moab that I could see . alt rider no longer sells a skid plate for a super Tenere , same for tours tech. I put new alt rider bars on the 19 because they work , and I bought the last skid plate for the Tenere from tour tech.
