when you put the camera on the left side, it "looks like" or knock a valve ... or exhaust leak in the arrow header

YIKES!! That is buckets knocking under the cam lobes and timing chain slap!! This is due to the early models defective CCT's. You are taking a chance to grenade that motor.

I guess I'm a wierdo. I find myself listening to my engine, and exhaust. Trying not to like it. Trying to say something negative about the note. Can't do it. I started out not really thinking about it. But, the more and more people that say it sounds like crap. . . . The more I actually listened to it. To me, it sounds like a bad ass. Not in the same way that my FJ with a Vance & Hines does, but it does. At the gym, I park with my back tire to the wall. It has a serious rumble/thump echoing off of the wall. The FJR, and even the FJ, does not. So, once again. . . . one less thing to worry about. :)

Does sound normal, but maybe a small exhaust tick in there.

They all sound ruff that's the way it is. Gen 1 and 2. If you have a skidplate. Get you some Dyna mat and put it inside the skid plate. You want be sorry. When I put my Altrider on it was magnifying the engine noise big time. I also wear earbuds. It'll drowned all of that John Deere engine noise.

Being a 2012, has the cam chain tensioner been updated? While you've got it opened up you should replace it with the miles you've got. The new part number is an updated part. You could install a manual tensioner like many have done, myself included.

I got some really good "engine noise" advice from my dad when I was a teen. He told me to simply remember the distinct sound of each different motor. As long as the sound stays the same then it's all good.

An example was my Honda 650R. I was ripping through a sand wash and freaking with this sudden nasty knocking noise coming from the motor. It was consistent and got louder with the revs. I eased up on the throttle and nursed it back to camp thinking the motor was history. It ended up being a loose skid plate!! Lesson learned.

All joking aside these parallel twins tend to make quite a bit of noise. I happen to like the engine design. I'm a big fan of both the parallel and single cylinder motors.

And then there is the triple!! Never owned one but boy oh boy what a sound!!

My old 2003 WR 450 used to sound like a rod was going to come through the case! I ran that bike 13 years and it never gave me a problem. The skid plate sent the noise upward. I think the Yamaha, Genesis design engines are just louder than most. Honda on the other hand has some of the quietest engines that I've heard. These Yammy's are tough as Hell though.

Ok I changed the chain, manual cct, set the valves change the head gasket. The noise that someone reffered as exhaust leak has gone and the ticking sound still remains so, guess in the engine compartment is all ok. Thanks again for you're help.

My Harley electraglide always sounded like something about to let go. So I sold her before the warranty wore out. Couple of months later I got a call from the dealer letting me know that as the new owner boarded the ferry for his first European vacation, a big end flew out the bottom of the crankcase.

My 2018 has developed a clattering noise similiar to slapping when I am in 3,4,5 gears above 4000 rpm. I don't hear it in 1st, 2nd, or 6th. I have warranty till Oct 2023 so hopefully if it's going to have a part fail, it will do it before then. My 2013 never had this type of clattering noise.
