G'day All..having trouble with adjusting my electronic rear shock..when I switch modes from low one rider to full load ..two plus bags..there is no visible change in height (my GS visibly alters height between settings). I Change settings as per book (engine running bike stationary)..also my readout is not showing a fault (display flashing) and goes through the process as normal. Also my sag is 62 mm. .went to dealer today and not much help..my Plan A...go to dealer for diagnostic, , Plan B ..replace with old school Ohlins or the like..any ideas would be welcome..Cheers. .Jn

Sounds like the preload servo motor/mechanism is stuck in the low position, as the bike should rise substantially when full load is selected. Probably lack of use?

Your dealer should be well aware of the likely cause. Are they avoiding work/warranty? Talk to Yamaha CS if necessary & get it fixed. The ES system works well for most riders & has proven reliable on the S10 & FJR13.

Try making the adjustments with the bike on the centerstand and watching the spring preload collar at the top while you make setting changes. Is it moving? If so, then the system is working. If there's no motion try digging into the diagnostics menu and performing a suspension reset. The instructions are in the service manual as well as on this forum. Having said that, for anyone over about 170 lbs, that rear spring is so soft you might not feel anything sitting on the bike. Many of us have changed to a stiffer rear spring for the ES model.

BTW, in case you haven't found it already, here is the link for the ES reset procedure mentioned by WJB ........... http://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?topic=17423.0

Your dealer should have undertaken this, when you first questioned them, hence my previous comments. Incidentally, IIRC, the suspension SCU sometimes needs it's memory jogging when the battery has run flat or a jump starer has been deployed. It remains a possibility that the system is jammed mechanically due to a lack of use or some other failure.

Good luck getting this sorted ............ KEN

Squibb, I'd like reset my ES suspension but when I click on the link you've posted it takes me back to the main forum. Is there another way to get to this info?

Since we are having some gremlins with search since the changeover, here is the reset procedure:

edit , just got it fingered out.

ok just went out and played with it, here's what i did,

put it on center stand

held tcs and reset buttons down while turning key on

held buttons down for 8 seconds

ecu AND SCU options came up, using tcs button i scrolled to highlight scu

pressed both buttons down again,

screen then read just DIA so i pressed both buttons again

had several screens of codes and numbers,

using tcs button i scrolled through them

when it read 84 on the top i pressed both buttons again and the preload adjustment started to raise the bike, it went all the way up then down,

error light went out

shut off key

turned key back on and no more code

this was all by pure trial and error, i have no idea what all the numbers stand for ,

maybe someone could sticky this under "how to re-home suspension" ...?
