Correct me if I'm wrong but I think we are all agreed that the ignition barrel cannot be seperated from the imobiliser (the black item that piggybacks the ignition barrel. I think I'm also correct in saying that the imobiliser and ECU are paired, meaning that if one tried to connect someone else's ECU to their bike it wouldn't work.
Now..all of this is a prequal to my desire to pick your brains on the following subject.
Could one replace the ingnition barrel/imobiliser and ECU from a Gen 1 bike for an ignition barrel/imobiliser and ECU from a Gen 2 bike??

If I bore you with the reason why then my finger will get fed up with typing.
Apologies for any typos from my fat fingers on my phone. Thanks in advance for any wisdom on this

I'm going to say no. Different meters/clocks. Gen 2 has a lot more run thru the ECU. Grip heaters, settings, etc.

I'm with Eric, the ECU would be looking for settings/sensors that wouldn't be there.

Thanks Guys. I was guessing that might be the answer. Would be interesting to try it nevertheless but I suspect you are correct. Thanks

Be a huge PITA but if the donor was complete electrically you could do a complete "electrical" conversion to gen 2. Harness, clocks, barrel etc. The engine ump is essentially the same. Should be able to connect everything up. ECU and Ignition barrel / security thingie would be the expensive bits anyway.

Sometimes that can burn you too. BTDT, not all the sensor and ECU plugs are the same in some cases. Don't know specifically about the S10.

Regarding the immobilizer, I have a question: the indicator light ( of the immo.) on the board doesn't illuminate after a fall into water ( in a river). Every other of indicators do. The bike works fine but I wonder if the immobilizer function is working too. As if it couldn't protect the bike in an attempted vehicle theft.
