Thanks a lot. Did you keep the engine breaking? Or if I smooth the gears it will be reduced?
The tune I'm using from Anthony reduces the engine braking (not breaking) but does not eliminate it. I can feel additional engine braking, if while decelerating, I switch from Sport to Tour mode. I think the hard engine braking in the stock programming partly contributes to the abrupt on/off/on throttle behavior. Smoothing that out was my prime motivation to have the tune done. Not sure what you mean by "smooth the gears"? Not sure how ECU programming could affect the transmission...

Thanks a lot. I meant the engine braking indeed (typo).
So to sum it up:
1- engine braking due to the deceleration may be reduced in a S mode and kept in T mode for instance.
2- at low speed in a decent the engine braking is not affected by the ECU flash as the latter acts on the sudden deceleration only but not if I am going slow and want to use the engine braking to help.
3- yes I meant smoothing out the throttle and not the transmission.
4- the other things that my trusted mechanic suggested is to remove the DB killer of my akrapovic and remove the o2 sensor and the anti pollution PAIR.
5- I should not expect a lower fuel consumption...at best it should remain the same...

Thank you so much!

Pretty much what i had done and for those reasons ,T mode is stock, i have Arrow headers, the Akro db killer is buried and not easily removable the o2 sensors are unplugged and the PAIRS still there , fan comes on at 100C and off at 95. Fuel consumption seems unchanged.

The ecu tunning local company sent me this message when I asked what have they done to the map:

S/T
FULL TORQUE POWER
FULL ECONOMIC SAVE

Anyone can help is it makes any sense?

Thanks a lot!

I guess 'S'port, Full Torque & Power (with much reduced engine brake?)
'T'ouring, Factory stock no change ,as in less throttle response

He just informed me that the ECU is locked and he needs to open it to unlock it..
I am crossing my fingers that nothing gets messed up...I thought there are softwares fo unlock the S10 ecu....

I’ve never heard anyone say the Super Ténéré ECU is locked. Sounds like whomever is working on it is unfamiliar with this ECU. I’d be very afraid…

Gen 1 ECUs cannot be read without cutting open the ECU to access CPU diagnostic pins. If you don't have a copy of the contents already, you'd have to open it up. Maybe that's what they are talking about? Of course, if they don't already have an analyzed copy of the ECU program, they would be in for a lot of work to analyze it and find the required tables.
Flash tune has already opened, read the program, analyzed it, and identified the tables for the gen 1 ECUs they support.
You can write to gen 1 ECUs without cutting them open, replacing the entire contents, via the ECU connector (flash tune provides a wiring harness).

Yes, gen2 as well. Anthony told me he can’t read the information that’s on the ECU, but if you’re re-flashing with a new tune, there’s no need, just overwrite it. It’s not locked to re-flashing.

I asked him about this possibility and waiting for his feedback...but at this stage I am more worried about the ECU than the restricted gears...will see how it goes

He said he wouldn't be able to flash it so I am getting the ecu back and learning to appreciate it as is LOL...

It kinda sounds like this tuner’s first Super Ténéré ECU and he has no frame of reference from which to make the changes. I don’t know if Anthony and other tuners somehow open the ECU to read the stock tune or whether they just go with an available canned tune and adjust from there? I know flash tune has a canned tune for our bikes. I actually went with Flash Tune’s standard tune initially but I was not happy with it. The throttle response was still jerky, particularly in S mode. I think their standard tune removes limits in the lower gears, changes the fan temps, and eliminates deceleration fuel cut, but does very minimal, if any, throttle curve remapping. Anthony’s tune was far superior.

If you buy the kit from Flash tune, they provide the stock ECU file that they have extracted from a sample ECU with a matching part number, and an "unrestricted" file that removes the throttle mapped restrictions (this is done by adjusting the throttle map curves). You can start from either of those and create your own tune. They also allow users to share their own tuning files, but there are not many contributors in that area.

the flash kit costs 450 USD so I would rather wait until I travel to Europe and then take it with me to get it flashed there.

I contacted Anthony for help and he said he needs a local partner for it...

Thanks once again

Due to some restrictions for me to send the ECU abroad (transport companies are not allowed to ship electronic devices), I thought about buying a used ECU from Europe directly and ship it to a reputed ECU tuner and get everything delivered back...I found an ecu for the 2014 model but I wondered how realistic this approach is especially if we think about compatibility, key reprogramming etc...

It’s too bad I didn’t see this post before. I was in Morocco last week, Marrakesh. I could’ve taken your ECU back home, had it flashed, and then mailed it back to you.
