Just installed this duo on my 2017 ES. Was a breeze to mount. Instructions were clear. All hardware included, even a small tube of the recommended Lock Tite. The rack is 5/16" thick (long model) and the mounting is very solid, as is the frame of the back rest. The wife was always scared I would drop her off the back of the bike when accelerating, this cured that problem. She says it is comfortable. I like that the cushion is removable for cleaning or easy replacement should I ever need to. No complaints at all, recommended.

I wanted the rack to do a simple DIY trunk for grocery trips and something that would be useful for touring too. Mounted an inexpensive Harbor Freight Apache 4800 X-Large case. $44 with 20% off coupon. It ain't no Pelican, but pretty solid and water tight, plus can add padlocks. Removed the carry handle and trimmed the off the handle mount pieces so I could mount it closer to the backrest. Used 1/4" hex head bolts and rubber washers to keep things dry and isolate for any potential rattling. Should also work well for strapping down an additional bag on top of it when touring.

Well done, the waterproof hard plastic cases are an excellent choice at a very reasonable cost.
Have a look at my 2018 3S setup.
I don't do two-ups, hence the addition rear case.

Nice. What racks did you use for the panniers?
I used 12 inches of flat aluminum 3/16 " x 1 " x 12 ".
Drill 1/4 " holes, I used the passenger grab rails. I don't do two ups.

5/16" thick plate, it's a beast. AltRider's plate is only 3/16" and I think Givi's plate is 3/16" or 1/4".

Use aluminum, light, doesn't rust, and most importantly it flexes.
I used 3/16 × 1 x 12 inches.
Or 4.6 mm x 25 mm x 30.5 centimeters
