Anybody wear a set of these out?
I'm running shinko 705's right now, cause i'm cheap. If these get enough additional mileage (705's look to be hitting 5k/10k miles r/f) then i can justify the ROI.

JK i'll likely try them anyway, but i'd like to know what to expect on our aircraft carrier sized dual sport bikes.....

I came off the Shinko 804/805's and got about 14,000km out of them. I have about 5000 km on the Trail Max Missions now. They hardly seem to have any wear on them. Like you I found the price a bit hard to swallow but for the mileage they seem to be working out. I can send a picture tonight if you want to see what they look like.

I wouldn't mind taking a look. Hoping to find a few folks who have worn a set out at least once... Price isn't too terrible. I was running 705s on an airhead gs. Those tires were 110 bucks a pair. That was great. The big radials on the death star are closer to 200 a pair already.

This is with 5782 km on them. About 20% of that has been on the dirt with TCS off ;)
Back tire is the first pic and then front tire. Pressure has been about 42 in back and 33 up front.

Been a long time since I have posted an update. First, I only have approximately 6,700 miles on the tires. The tires were installed February of 2020 and due to Covid and personal medical issues I just haven’t ridden much in 2020. As before, I like these tires on dry dirt roads as they are really planted; however, I have not tried them in deep sand as I try to avoid the stuff along with deep slick mud. For dry pavement, I like them. But get the pavement wet, watch out as the rear losses traction fairly easily. I was reminded of this today while accidentally getting caught in some serious rain on roads that haven’t seen rain in a while. Wear looks good so far though.

deep slick mud
They are very squirmy in mud.
My first foray into mud was camping near the NEBBR Leg 1. At a walking pace, the front tire slid out on the second mudhole. I was duck-walking. Landed lightly on the side cases(givi outback trekkers. No damage)

The second was on Leg 5 of the NEBDR, Vermont Class 4 roads. Not sure why they call some of them roads. Some have been ripped up by dirt bikes to the point where the ruts are 2.5' deep. Anyway, the tire does not like going slow through mud, but I do. No drops, but several close calls.
For a 50/50 tire, I can't complain much. It's a compromise for good on road performance.

IDK what you're doing in the rain, I've never had a problem. Loaded or not, I stay planted. Perhaps I'm less aggressive than you are in the rain :shurgs:

Started to develop some small cracks at the base of some treads. Will keep an eye in them...

It doesn't surprise me that they might be less than stellar in the rain. There's no siping on the very large lands. And, if there were any oils still on the road. . . . It's still going to depend a lot on the road(s) surface.

Note: My rain experience may be caused by the lack of rain on Texas roads so when we do get rain the roads are really slick with oils, antifreeze, etc...
Yeah, our crappy ass, chip seal roads suck ass. People put pictures of dirt roads on here that are in better shape than our paved ones.

I watched a tire review with this tire and several other 50/50 tires. They did actual riding in mixed terrain with each tire and then went over details. Even measuring tread spacing and durometer reading. The mission rated one of the hardest tires, that and what Sierra said about sipping leads to less rain performance than an equally styled tire with softer compound. That said I have a pair waiting on the current one to need replacement. It’s close to it now.

Texas roads especially west Texas are slick as ice with a little rain. I’ve never had a tire that was good on them.

One of the main reasons I don't ride in the rain. When I was stationed in San Diego, I fell in love with their rain grooved concrete; always had good traction. I use Hankook ATm tires on my Jeep. Great wet traction. . . . until the Texas heat turns them in rocks. They get replaced way before they wear out. Bike tires will do the same thing though.

A small status update. I'm now at almost 13k miles on the tires and still have tread so best lasting tires so far. I'm convinced that I would buy these again.

Dunlop has a $60 rebate going on through July 31st. on the Trailmax Mission tires. There are two catches to the deal. You have to buy them from a Dunlop Pro dealer and get any service from the dealer to get $60. You can get a $40 rebate if you just buy two tires and no service. Internet sellers can't be Pro dealers, so if your local shop is a pro Dealer, ask them if they can get you the rebate. rebate.jpg

Couple of pictures of my rear Trailmax tire. I have a little over 1,000 miles on the plugs. They were simple nail holes fixed with a string plug. Soon as I get home next week, they are coming off. The splitting has seemed to stop.

Just put these on my bike.
I measured the front tread at 8mm, and the rear tread at 11mm "as mounted" and inflated. Measurements taken in the center of the tread.

The front mounted quite easily. The rear is quite stiff, and was a bit more difficult.

Went for a 135-mile ride Yesterday to break them in and get an initial feel for them.
Rode some dirt/gravel but mostly pavement. Rode a bunch of twisties, but there was lots of Sunday traffic so I couldn't push them very hard.

The front tire "Sings" quite loudly at around 50-55 mph!
I'm hoping this calms down a little with wear.

Initial feel on dirt roads is that the front feels very similar to my E07 Dakar that I just took off, with very similar grip level.
The rear has a bit more grip than I was expecting, but not as grippy as the E07 Dakar on dirt.

On pavement they felt planted, but again I didn't push them very hard.
I'm sure the rear will grip better in the dry than the E07 Dakar that I took off (which was quite squirmy at the limit)
