Hi Everyone,

I am interested in buying a used motorcycle (private sale) from an individual who lives in Edmonton, Alberta. He told me he has never sold a bike privately before and was not sure of the entire process. I am in Ontario, interested in buying this bike and I am very familiar with the process of transferring ownership of bike within the province, but it appears that in Alberta there are some differences in documents and other things. In Ontario, I require the UVIP and "Green slip" that the owner signs on the back of the "Vehicle Portion" and the UVIP has the vehicle history along with the bill of sale portion on the back. Does the ministry of transportation in Alberta have a UVIP system? Apparently the "Green Slips" don't exist as the owner told me he has nothing like this.. how do you go about transferring ownership of vehicles without the green slip in Alberta?

If there is any one here who lives in Alberta who can help me out, I would love to talk to you... I can call you on my phone with my long distance plan. Thank you so much!!

If you don't get an answer on here then your best bet is to contact the DMV/DVLA equivalent in Alberta? This then ensures no-one is giving the run-around by selling to someone out of the province....

I actually just did that, apparently the documents are a little different but at least I know the proper terms for them... they have a much different system but I believe I know what documents are needed now to transfer ownership between provinces. They are very privacy orientated there so they don't have documents that show any details about the seller like we have the "UVIP"

As stated above by barkingllizard he is correct. I am in Edmonton, Alberta. So if you bought the bike from the guy here you would then ship or come pick up the bike and them your dmv would probably then require you to do some tests on the bike as it sounds like your "Green Slip" sounds like an air care/ emissions thing and you will most likely have to get that done once bike is in your province. I would call your dmv and ask the question as they will know first hand how to do an Out of province on the bike as that is what has to be done here in Alberta. I am a automotive tech and that is what has to be done on vehicles that are being brought to another province. It might be different for bikes though.

Cheers and good luck. If you do not have an S10 right now you will love this bike if that is what your getting from Edmonton possibly.

I already have a 2016 ES but there is another Yamaha in Edmonton I am looking to own, wife approves of this so I am taking opportunities! There are none of these bikes in Ontario so I’m willing to import one from out of province.
