Disabled electronic suspension?

Hey guys. I have a 2014 es and want to upgrade the suspension. I’m a heavier guy 300lbs ready to ride. Trying to figure out options here. And I replace the shock and do a cartridge swap in the front. Then disable the ecu suspension control so I don’t get faults? Or should I try to revalve and respiring the factory components? Is there even replacement valves for the forks and shock?

You can go either way. With disabled es you can run aftermarket shocks and that’s an easy way to go with the least down time. Some shops will revalve your stock shocks and other will say it’s not possible. So find a shop that will and talk options. If you redoing the fork with new valves and shims then you will be down the same amount of time. If it was me I would redo the es system and keep those handy adjustments. Which I will be doing that later in 2021.

I’m Respringing mine first and will go from there and then if need or desire be then I will go new valves and. Custom shim stack. Short answer is yes you can find replacement valves for both.

Have you found a place for replacement fork springs?

The ones I have found are mainly custom. Motocd.com can get them for you. You’ll have to call though. Then sonic springs show some as does race tech. I would call and double check they fit the es before ordering.

I doubt there are listed replacement valves for the es fork, but I am sure they could be revalved easily enough. A reputable suspension shop will probably have access to replacement valves. Someone on here can probably tell you if they are 25 or 30mm cartridges. Ohlins has made 20/25/30mm cartridges forever and depending on the damping rod size I am sure there is something out there if you wanted to go that route.

Plenty of aftermarket shocks out there but the ES uses a different linkage than the non es so if you want to stay with the es Link do some calculations and make sure the shock you have made is sprung properly or go all the way and replace the linkages as well if you want to go with a non es aftermarket shock.

Acellerated technologies in Ontario has a great rep and I am sure they could respring and revalve your stock stuff properly if you wanted to just upgrade the stock components.

If someone on here who took their es forks apart can post spring length and diameter we can see if they are the same as non es.

This is the first I've heard of anyone wanting to bypass the ES system. I would suggest reaching out to Tabasco here on the forum for guidance. I do know there are several threads about upgrading springs on the ES models, so it can be done without disabling the system.

I was Thinking if I upgraded to better forks and shocks that the factory stuff wouldn’t plug in. So just remove all of electrical harness to clean it up. And remove the options from the dash

If I was contemplating what you are, I would sell your ES machine and find a newer standard version Tenere. Farkles will move right over. Although it might cost a couple $$$, you'll have a much better package in the end w/o the hassle. Going that direction, I would keep the stock fork internals, change to straight rate springs and add a 8983 Penske shock that is built and sprung for you. My '18 works exceedingly well both empty and loaded in this configuration. I do keep a heavier shock spring for two-up loaded touring. Takes approximately 30 minutes to swap the spring.

Any good suspension shop can re-valve and re-spring. Both shock and forks are fully rebuildable. My recommendation is to only get the valving to match the spring rates you are increasing to. Yamaha did a fantastic job with the ES valving.

I have contemplated selling. But my bike is fully farkled. if I sold my bike I would probably end up with a T7. Not sure I want to do that yet.
