Doing a service and just going over everything @ 10,700 miles and decided to change the Diff fluid . I had changed it at 1,200 just because , but now I was surprised to see how much it looked matalic ,no complainants , I guess it was a good time to change it . Looked at the gear and it looked good , I do ring & pinions in auto,s and may see a little of this , I guess this is a smaller scale so it shows up more !!

I dunno, Jeff....my S10 has 45,000 miles on it, and I've changed the final drive oil multiple times, and I can't say it ever looked "metallic" to me.

It doesn't cost much to baby that final drive, so I change mine every service, on both the S10 & my FJR. Always Yamalube.

Still flushing out the assembly lube, once that's gone it''ll come out looking just like it went in. I still change the final drive every other oil change...overkill, but for the small amount of gear lube needed, cost is insignificant!

My 600, 1500 and 3000 mile change had a fair metallic shine decreasing over the miles. Changed it a couple more times on short miles. Do it every 10-20 thousand now and it looks fine.

Mobil 1 synthetic here. When servicing in my shop I change the final drive oil. It's a small amount and easy. When I have to service on the road I do not.
