Dealer in WA advertising Demo ES flavor machines 2014 - 2016

Are Demo bikes a good option to consider?

I bought my '12 as a demo with 166 miles on it. I've had it over 3 years now and 16k miles (I split my motorcycling miles with an FJR) and it hasn't given me any hesitation about buying another demo bike. If Yamaha didn't make such good bikes, I might have considered things differently, however.

I consider my first 600 miles as "demo miles".

I seriously doubt folks that "demo" a Super Tenere would likely be crueler than I was.

A GSXR or R1 demo bike is a very different animal than a demo Super Tenere. I think.
Look around this forum. Note the fellas that actually buy these things. We're all bark and little bite. :)

These bikes are not the ones the squids beat and even if so, the Tenere is so conservatively designed that it's relatively bullet-proof. After all, it's the official BMW Recovery Vehicle.
;)
I wouldn't hesitate.

The miles on the units (all from same dealer) seem to be little high for 'DEMO':

'14 ES 2710 miles $11990
'14 ES 6531 miles $12490
'16 ES 6631 miles $12990
'15 ES 5452 miles $12990

On looking at the Cycle Trader again, it seems they've used DEMO to 'hide' the Stock Number.

I wouldn't mind the fly and ride (I'm in GA!) but can't really jump for 'used' machines at that price when a 'few $$ more' can get a 0 miles '16 or '17

My 2016 S10 was bought as a demo with 500 KM on it. 3000.00 below list and other than a very small scratch on the display screen it was showroom condition. And the warranty did not start till I took delivery. I have only managed 200 KM since delivery because of bad weather but it looks like and runs like every other new japanese bike I have owned :perfect.

It might be that the owner was riding them under the dealer tag for a time period. That is not all bad since you know the maintenance was taken care of at the proper intervals. I would call, you might find a great deal waiting there. The numbers are retail so deal, deal, deal.....

::026:: Obviously those are used bikes. Which in its self is not an issue, but "I" would not trust a dealer that used those tactics. Or tell them you want to "demo" a '17, and bring it back with 6,000mi two years later.

Yea, I used "600" because that's demo territory.
Add a zero, and that's technically "used" territory.

I still stand by my opinion that the mileage doesn't warrant reliability concerns, but it completely changes the bargaining scenario. In the buyers favor too.

I'm betting there is potential deal making to be had. :)

And since warranty starts when the first owner rides out you get the full year. Offer a grand less!

If they are really Demo's, as someone else posted the warranty will start when you take delivery. Maybe he scored them out of Yamaha's demo ride fleet? Just speculation on my part.

And as to concerns. Think about how well protected today's modern machines are. Rev limiters etc. unless you wreck it, how much damage can you do in a short demo ride?

Work the deal, get YES thrown in, go for it. Fly and ride sounds like a great way to get to know her, and see the Rockies!

+1. Those are used bikes, not demos. And the prices are meh, in my opinion.

I wouldn't hesitate.

Definitely was not aware of the miles when I wrote the above, and will agree that the miles put them in "used" status. I bought my 2014 a year ago used with less miles and for a better price.

The only saving grace on these is that if the bikes were not titled, which is what allows them to be called demonstrators, then Bigbore4 is right about getting the full warranty. For the price, you could also press for including a 4 year Yamaha Extended Service (YES) plan on top.

Confusion to pull trigger created by a '17 0 miles machine available for 14350 OTD (ES flavor) excluding GA tax tag titles (this too is out of GA and will mean about a 10hr ride back)
I'm looking at the possible better resale value of a '17 as opposed to the '16 from the 'used demo' machines mentioned earlier.
Whichever way I go, I need to pull the trigger quick. Sold my FJR to make room for the S10 and a garage without a TwoWheeler is just messed up. ::)

A '17 ES for $14,350?! That's all I would need to hear. Make mine a Cobalt Blue, and show me where to sign. ::26::
