Hi, when riding slow over bumps I hear noises from the front area. Sounds like plastic touching. I tried ejy712 his suggestion (adding neoprene washers under instrument panel but that was not it. It is not the suspension (no noise when pushing down with front brake applied). Could it be the little front plate attached with pins touching the windscreen? Thanks for your help.

Could it be the dashboard/speedo unit, on my new S10 I found that the rubber mounts allowed the unit to move a huge amount and tap other parts, I ended up adding a couple of washers to the 3 mounting screws to firm it up a bit!!

Do you have LED headlight bulbs installed? The modules for those that get tucked inside the lamp housings can bounce around making a similar noise.

How many miles on the bike? If the top nut on the triple tree has backed off, and they can back off on their own, you can get a clunk or knock going over square edged holes. 27mm wrench. Skid plate mounts?

Check the front El plastico front assembly mounting bolts.
Can you get the front housing to move when you tug or pull side to side?
I had one bolt loose that made the front move and clattered when i hit bumps or road down scrubbed dirt roads.
I forgot what one it was. :-\

If it's a gen 2, then the adjustable screen assembly could be the issue. Mine manages to loosen the RH wing nut adjuster all on it's own. Also the brackety has been known to fail. However I can recall a buddy with an AT reporting strange noises like this - turned out to be a loose engine mount he had disturbed when fitting a skid plate - it's strange how noise sources transmit inaccuratley to the rider.

Thanks a lot for the tips and hints. It has 8000 miles. I did install neoprene washers under the instrument panel, still no luck. It is a Gen 1, I order a Madstad bracket so may be that will help. The front housing is not lose. Not sure about the top nut triple tree but will find out what that is and fasten it..... I do have LED bulbs - will try to see if there is a way to secure them better in the housing?
I did install a larger windscreen and the noise got louder but it is not lose, when I hold it while riding over bumps the noise is the same, I think it just amplifies/echoes the sounds more. Will check the engine mounts and update findings. Thanks again

Check the dash cover (plastic piece under the windscreen and in front of the dash). I know on my 2012 it can bounce and make a plastic on plastic "ticking" noise when going over bumps.

Thanks for the PM. Just another couple of thoughts: -

Steering head bearings - check excess play & adjust if necessary. Loose head bearings can send all kinds of worrying noises around the bike.

Headlight - in fitting the LEDs could the internal location of the reflector have been disturbed? A simple test is to follow a buddy down a bumpy road at night. Is the beam reasonably stable or can you discern a flickering effect that dazzles the guy in front & maybe oncoming vehicles too?

Something for the weekend. Keep us posted ............... KEN

I had a noise like that. It was the rubber plug that holds the brake line in the back center of the front fender. Sounded just like it was in the dash area.

Feel of the rubber plug in the fender. If it loose you will feel it. A little clear silicone fixed my rattle.

Problem solved, many thanks all. Turned out to be several issues. Some zip ties, silicone and the madstad bracket did the trick. Most of the sound was coming from the windscreen (vstream), it was touching the stock metal bracket at the bottom when vibrating. I thought I had ruled that out by holding while riding it which was naive. Anyway much improved now and I highly recommend the bracket, no more buffeting. The wires were noisy too, the bike has a raised handlebar and the clutch and brake lines were not snug. Thanks again everyone.

This happens to me also - except for me it is alwys the LH one. Part of my 10 sec pre launch checklist is to give them both a turn to make sure they are snug.

I had a mystery jingling noise from the front end when I hit potholes or bigger bumps at low speeds. Discovered it was the tool kit jingling under the fairing.

Interesting, I still hear an occasional 'plastic' clunk when driving slow over bumps. Could very will be the tool kit. Did you secure it and did it help? Thanks!

Hi Gary

Sorry to drag up an old post. I have this exact issue on my 2017 S10. How does one add these washers ?
I've had a quick look, for I attack the unit front the front ?

I’m really sorry, but this was 3 years ago and I don’t recall what I did! I guess that if you get access to the rear of the speedo unit you will see the three mounting bolts and can probably see how to add a couple of washers to compress the rubber grommits a bit to reduce the movement, but I don’t recall what I actually did. Sorry.

I had a look today, all three screws at the back of the meter assembly had sheered off. Hopefully should be covered by warranty. Otherwise do you know if you can buy the "shell" of the speedo/dash?
