Now do us a favor and let us know periodically how it is handling and wearing after being new.

Speedo only 5% optimistic? Road tests I've seen of the S10 with the stock tires say the same 5% off, I'd guessed that the 175/55-17 car tire had a smaller diameter so I'd been assuming a 10% optimistic speedometer error. Guess I'll have to slow down a bit!

So now I'm a couple hundred miles into it. It did feel weird in the beginning but the more it gets scrubbed in and a little more rounded off the better it feels. But keep in mind, I am the type that can get in the saddle right from the dealer and ride without instantly reflashing, re-clutching, or re-suspensioning. I would say that if you are one of them then a CT is not for you

now that ive done 5000 miles i can say its not for everybody. especially the guys who try to make their bike ride like ducatti. i run 30lbs and the tire flexes round when i lean in tight turns. great in dirt or gravel roads but different on asphalt. since i dont ride like i used to its not a problem. wears like iron. there is a definite difference between a $47 ct and a $200 mt, thats for sure. if i was going on an alaska trip, i would use one for sure

Thanks for the tire information. Have been searching for a 'skinny' 17" tire. Would have ran this tire to Alaska this year if I had known earlier. I will run it on my C10 this fall, as I have a few slab runs on the calendar, and a tire like this is money well spent.

Just mounted up my 4th car tire, last one made it 9k miles and could have pushed it to at least 10k miles. That's twice the mileage I get out of the OEM Bridgestones of a Shinko with the sidecar!

I got an easy 30,000 from the same tire in a 205/50/17 on my old FZ1. Looking forward to running a car tire on my new Tenere when the rear wears out.

Why put a car tyre on a motorcycle? I can understand if a sidecar was fitted, but for a solo machine......! Corners must be fun!
There are lots of forum threads in here and on other sites about the whys (and why nots) that may provide the information you seek. They often start with someone thinking they are the first to question the darkside/car tyre practice. I'd suggest you try there.
Or even try here:

This thread is more about the subtleties - pressures, sizes, mounting issues, bracing etc. Having said that if you read the posts above, you will get some answers anyway.

Because we can, and we choose to. I have been running them on various bikes for 12 years and over 400,000 km's, and I live in a very twisty, hilly area. And I haven't found a bike tirebob1aa.jpg that can handle 300 RWHP

real weights or dynabeads?
I've been trying ride-on. I used beads previously and was ok with them, but I know many dual sport guys that started using the ride on and were having good results. The main benefit is flat protection, but it offers dynamic balancing too. They came by the product on the advice of border patrol guys who dealt with flats constantly. Ride on apparently drastically reduced their number of flats. I'm not real sensitive to balance issues, but I've gotten acceptable results with my little gravity balancer, beads and Ride on.

I've been on the car tire for a few thousand miles with this bike.. Have over 100K miles combined with past bikes. Love it, no complaints. Just had my recall done for the subharness by the local dealer. All they did was preach at me about how I was gonna die, crash, blah blah blah. I just wanted em to do the recall, not scold me like my dad did when I was 12. Almost pissed me off. Oh well, they aint gonna change my mind. The flip side is-- I love other riders interest in how it feels and works. In the end, I convert some and make a lot of em jealous cause their bike cant do it.

Long time listener, first time caller (at least it sure feels that way). Just put the Economist on my ‘13 S10. Took the wheel in with the tire and had the motorcycle shop mount it and balance it. Got it back with ~45 lbs of pressure but decided to run it in the mid-low 30s. Around the neighborhood it seemed fine and it didn’t seem to be an issue until the commute to work today.

So I was doing about 70 mph when I exited the highway, slowed down, and took the turn. There was no real hard braking or anything, just the normal slowdown and such. I can’t pinpoint when it got squirrelly, but it did, and man oh man could you feel it. I knew then I had a flat, so I limped it to a gas station and low and behold: a COMPLETELY flat back tire. Inspected it and didn’t see any punctures or noticeable ruptures anywhere, and it looked like it was still on the bead. Threw her on her center stand (wow that was much harder than it usually is), reinflated the tire to 30 lbs, and continued on my merry way—paranoid the whole time—for my last 30 miles to work. I stopped a couple times to check the rear and no other problems.

However, my top speed from this point forward was like 55 whereas my top speed the first 17 miles was 75. I think I’ll add 10 lbs at the gas station tonight before trekking home and see what there is to see about that. Of course I’d love advice from those running the Economist. I saw where Sallydog was running 30 lbs so that was kinda my starting point.

Edit: holy crap this IS my first post!
