Long time listener, first time caller (at least it sure feels that way). Just put the Economist on my ‘13 S10. Took the wheel in with the tire and had the motorcycle shop mount it and balance it. Got it back with ~45 lbs of pressure but decided to run it in the mid-low 30s. Around the neighborhood it seemed fine and it didn’t seem to be an issue until the commute to work today.

So I was doing about 70 mph when I exited the highway, slowed down, and took the turn. There was no real hard braking or anything, just the normal slowdown and such. I can’t pinpoint when it got squirrelly, but it did, and man oh man could you feel it. I knew then I had a flat, so I limped it to a gas station and low and behold: a COMPLETELY flat back tire. Inspected it and didn’t see any punctures or noticeable ruptures anywhere, and it looked like it was still on the bead. Threw her on her center stand (wow that was much harder than it usually is), reinflated the tire to 30 lbs, and continued on my merry way—paranoid the whole time—for my last 30 miles to work. I stopped a couple times to check the rear and no other problems.

However, my top speed from this point forward was like 55 whereas my top speed the first 17 miles was 75. I think I’ll add 10 lbs at the gas station tonight before trekking home and see what there is to see about that. Of course I’d love advice from those running the Economist. I saw where Sallydog was running 30 lbs so that was kinda my starting point.

Edit: holy crap this IS my first post!
I'm running high 30s now

17" car tires are a few thousands bigger in diameter than a 17" motorcycle tire and don't fit the rim as tight as a motorcycle tire does. Keep a close check on the pressure.

Oh, I added 10 lbs, giving me 40 lbs, before I left work last night. I didn’t baby it too much and pretty much traveled my normal speed on the highway. No issues. H’uh. Go figure

I just went to the dark side and running 38psi. 150 miles so far on various pavement and gravel. I’m impressed with its function at this point.

Not sure if reviving this is the right thing to do but as 175/55r17 aren't falling from the sky and I'm specially looking for a winter tire any one ever ran a 205/50R17 on the S10, that's the size I used on my dl650 but the swing arm looks tighter on the S10 and before I order a your I want to know.

I think a number of our darksiders have moved on so it'll be interesting to hear the responses you get. Looking at a tire calculator, the 205 is going to be 1.18" wider which may be an issue with the brake rod.

Yeah was looking at pictures of the 175 think 205 is just going to be too much. Sucks that I can't find a winter tire in 175 but it is what it is at this point made it through last winter with the MC tire, just noticed it is on the bars and was going to order a CT instead of putting on my leftover 805s.

The 175 is the size that fits without mods. Sometimes hard to find. I buy them 2 at a time and keep an email alert active on ebay.

I have no interest in running a CT other than winter for cold pavement traction which the economist is a summer tire which means it's probably as bad or worse than a MC tire in the cold. I only have an 11 mile commute so when the ground is below 30 the tire is barely warm by the time I get to work. I always ran a ws60 blizzak on my Strom and the cold traction and stopping was night and day compared to an MC tire. Appreciate your response though.

i hear you. i run that tire all year but i live in NC where winter is alot milder. also, i dont get out untill 9 or 10am so the roads are warmed up much more than a 6am commute. and although i am heavy on the gas and throttle i dont ride as wild with this tire as i used to ride.

Check out Anlas M&S winter grip motorcycle tires. No personal experience but they get positive reviews.
Looked into to those a few years ago CT was just more cost effective then, might have to look again, but as said 300 for a rear is a bit much

yea but your putting a tyre on 4 in rim that is designed for a 5 in.....
That’s it. The bead is made for an automobile rim, not a motorcycle rim. It could peel off. Also, some insurance companies are now stating that they will NOT cover you in the event of an accident.
