Cruise control

I recently bought a Super Tenere XT1200ZE. It is a 2015 model and I bought it from a private seller.
The odometer is 40000 km and directly I drove to my normal (non Yamaha) workshop to get the 40000 km service done. On the way to the workshop i tried the cruise control and it worked normally.

After servicing I noticed that the cruise control didn't work. The yellow light is shown but when I try to fix the speed then the green indicator doesn't show up and the speed is not locked. I went back to the workshop and explained the problem but he could not find what's wrong.

Any ideas of what could have happened.

I agree , probably a faulty or incorrectly adjusted front or rear brake light switch.

If the brake light stays on, or flickers on and off it automatically disengages the cruise control.

What did the shop do for the 40k service?

The CC requires speed input from the ABS magnetic pick ups on both wheels, the brake switch will cancel it on either pedal or lever, (the lever actually has a separate switch for this along with the switch for the light), and there is a throttle switch somewhere too. If you roll off throttle, it will cancel the CC. That may be a servo input from the throttle by wire mechanism.

Point is, it worked when you took the bike there, now it doesn't. Odds are high it's something he worked on or did. Likely w/o knowing he impacted the CC.

At 40k the bike would be due for valve clearance check and doing that would require removing the throttle bodies. An inexperienced tech could have damaged or forgot to connect the throttle cancel switch.
If either wheel was removed they could have damaged the speed sensor.
Your 2015 will have onboard diagnostics to test each cruise switch and display a code, so there is no need to guess. Ask here if you want guidance to go through the routine.

We have many threads on the forum covering CC issues, so search is your friend. The guys have already touched on most of the possible issues & the most regular cause is the rear brakelight switch - sometimes it's just a slight pedal adjustment, maybe after lubing the fulcrum, without a corresponding adjustment to the switch. All looks OK when the bike is parked up, but with the suspension compressed out on the road, the light could be just flickering on all the time so the CC won't set.

Simple enough for your dealer to check the codes though - they created the problem; make sure they seek it out & fix it.

I wish you luck.
Sometimes (only sometimes), this problem can be really hard to find.

Kickstand down
Transmission in 1st
Kill switch STOP
Press and hold TCS and RESET at the same time
Turn key ON
Continue to press and hold TCS and RESET until SELECT/ECU appears on the display
Press and hold TCS and RESET again until DIAG appears
Press and hold TCS and RESET again until 1/14 appears
Press TCS until 61/xx appears. xx is the fault code, if there is more than one they will appear in sequence
Press TCS until 62/xx appears. xx is the number of stored codes. To clear all codes flip kill switch to RUN then STOP
Turn key OFF to exit diagnostics

Post back with what codes you have.

Hi again. Now I have checked the error codes. The following errors are reported:
12
30

Thanks again for all help and effort.

Code 12 is crankshaft position sensor, I don't think that would affect the cruise control.
Code 30 is latch up detected, meaning the tip over switch shut the engine off after the bike was dropped, also should have no affect on cruise.
Clear both codes and run the bike a bit, see if code 12 comes back.

Thank you. I will do that. Unfortunatelly we have winter snow and ice in Sweden right now so I have to wait until the weather gets a little better until I cant take the bike out for a spin.

Hi again. Weather is warmer today and I took the bike for a spin. First I checked that the error codes was gone. Then I took a test drive. The problem with CC was the same. When I checked after the trip there was no error codes.

Any ideas?

Read your owners manual for all the things that can cause the CC to cancel. Then check each of those thoroughly. Odds are high that the system simply has a signal canceling CC, thus it won't accept a set command.

OK, good the previous codes did not come back.
You can now check individual switch function.
Go into diagnostics again and toggle (TCS) up to step 20/xx. xx should be OFF, shift to neutral and xx should be ON. Shift back to 1st.
Go to step 80/xx, xx should be OFF, press RES+ and xx should be ON.
Go to step 81/xx, xx should be OFF, press SET- and xx should be ON.
Go to step 82/xx, xx should be OFF, pull the front brake lever and xx should be ON.
Stay on step 82/xx, xx should be OFF, press the rear brake pedal and xx should be ON.
Stay on step 82/xx, xx should be OFF, pull the clutch lever and xx should be ON.
Stay on step 82/xx, xx should be OFF, turn the throttle backwards and xx should be ON.
Go to step 83/xx, xx should be OFF, pull the front brake lever and xx should be ON.
Stay on step 83/xx, xx should be OFF, press the rear brake pedal and xx should be ON.
Step 82 tests the cruise cancel switches, step 83 tests the brake light switches.
