Can’t see how a faulty brake switch could cause this flashing of the CC light?

Use your imagination and suppose it: would happen if one of the CC “disconnectors” fails when you need to stop.? If the motorcycle has 4 (four) CC disconnectors, I think it is an important issue to be able to disconnect it.

You may not see how it does it, but it does. There are 4 permissives for the cc to engage, front and rear brake switch, clutch switch and switch on the throttle body (the one that disengages cc if you close the throttle quickly.) Either of them being faulty will cause cc malfunction, normally the flashing green light.

And there are 4 brake switches, 2 operate the brake light and 2 are for cruise control. Code 90 is triggered when the brake light switch closes after the cruise switch. The 2 front switches are contained in one assembly and not available separate.

In my case, the CC light blinking issue was caused by a damaged rim. I guess, the excessive vibration was affecting the speed sensor in some way. Before the rim replacement, the light would start blinking randomly every 30-40 miles or so, I had to shut off the engine to reset the CC. After the replacement, not a single time in 3k miles.

A friend of mine just had the CC fixed on his 2016 ES. Turned out to be a bad front brake light / cancel switch. He could induce the error by just pulling and releasing the brake lever. The CC light would then start flashing.

The flashing / not functioning CC just popped up for me on my 2016. I just finished the 16k mile service, including adjusting the rear brake light switch. However, I think it's the front brake switch for me too. Error is gone after turning bike off and back on. When pressing the rear brake pedal, all is fine. One squeeze of the front brake and the error pops up. Brake lights still work.

I'm still reading through the threads on the issue, but wondering if replacement is the only option. Cleaning the switch somehow won't address it?

Didn't know there was one. I just picked up this bike a couple months ago and not sure if it's been done. Good to know that's an option. I'll reach out to the dealer.
They can check the V.I.N. to be certain. But, what you're describing sounds like it will be the culprit. It might take a while for the part to get in so call, check, and bring the bike in when the part gets there. There's been some members here that brought the bike in to check, and the dealer would let them leave with it. Said it was safety issue. Not sure how cruise not working would cause a crash, but . . . .

The front brake light switch/harness was recalled on my ‘15 S10 and my ‘19 Tracer GT. The dealer let me switch out the harnesses and return the failed ones. It is easy to replace on the S10.

Just called the dealer. They're checking, but I also went here https://www.yamaha-dealers.com/public/web/techpubs/nhtsaPublications.html and looked up my VIN. It says that the service has not been done.

The bummer is that I'm heading out in two days for a ~2000 mile round trip ride from Washington to California and back. I'm stopping on the way to check out the Suzuki 800DE and was considering trading in the S10. There's a lot I like about the S10, but it's just a bit too big for me. We'll see what happens. I fully expect I'll be returning on the S10, but keeping options open if they make me an irresistible offer.

Also just heard back from the local dealer. They're without a tech at the moment. :-(
It'll likely mean going to the dealer an hour away.

My dealer just told me that they'd have to do it, but maybe I could talk them into letting me do it.

...or I could just spray a little WD40 in the switch...I removed the switch from the handle bar (1 easy screw). Opposite the little switch you can see a spring. I sprayed a little blast in there. Pushed the switch a few times. Turned on the bike. Pushed the switch a few times, no error code. Installed the switch, turned on the bike, pulled the front brake, no error code.

Problem solved, for now...

I'm sure someone will tell me I shouldn't use WD40, but it's what I had and it seems to have solved the issue for now. I'll look into getting the recall work done when I'm back, unless I trade it in on this trip...

I feel your pain as I had a new 2016 FJR back in 2016 and had that issue reoccur on almost every ride. My local dealer took my bike in for days several times and never got it fixed. I took it to a different dealer and they also couldn't fix it and Yamaha seemed to care less than nothing according to the second dealer. I ended up trading the bike six months later as I thought the whole thing was ridiculous, no cruise on a sport touring bike and no manufacturer support.

Yeah, keep the can close by because you're right, not a permanent solution. But "good 'nuff" considering that the switch, or the entire bike, is going to get replaced.
Cruise worked about 90% of the time over the past 4 days or so. Will still get the recall work done when I can.
