Cruise control cancelling while in operation

My cruise control will all of the sudden stop working during operation on the freeway. That sort of sudden engine braking can be a little disconcerting (and possibly put my butt in someone’s grill eventually).

Any ideas on how to fix this?

I have this happen to me occasionally if i get lazy with my throttle hand and roll the throttle forward. At least I know it's my fault in my case.

‘I thought it might be that, as well, but I took pains to pay careful attention to both hands, so I don’t think it was me.;)

Could be a number of things, but the most popular is a failing front brake light switch. (There is a recall on them. Have you had it replaced yet?) Also, if your rear brake light switch is adjusted too tight, just inadvertently bumping your brake pedal will disconnect the CC.
just checked the Yamaha product recall link with my VIN, and you’re right. THANK you for making me aware of this

If you're using any kind of extension on your brake pedal, it might cause this problem. My altrider extension had a loose screw which was causing this problem. After I tightened it, it started to work as it should.
Another possible cause:
I had a power cutter switch on my battery and it was causing some resistance. I was getting ABS, ES errors along with cruise control issues. After I unistalled it, the problem disappeared.
That brake switches also could also be a reason for this problem has already been mentioned.
Hope you get to the bottom of this.
Regards,
