Crashed last Friday. Maybe a totaled bike

That’s the problem with insurance repairs for motorcycles. They don’t fix anything, it’s all just replaced. At least with cars they fix a dent, but dent your fuel tank and they replace it.

I work in the auto field, same as bikes, you'd be amazed at what gets totalled for seemingly very minor reasons.

There's a whole industry on Youtube of people that buy cool "totalled" cars at auction and rebuild them.

Bad luck; just glad you are OK.

It's important to get back in the saddle & move on IMHO, often more difficult if you take the buy back route.

Anyway, let's hope you get a decent settlement with your insurers whatever you decide.

I'm glad you're fine. It seems like too much damage from just a side drop. Did the motorcycle spin in the air and hit the asphalt? ... or just fell and dragged? The folding of the subframe ... we could blame the side case, but I think that before folding the secondary frame they should have been disengaged (they are the Yamaha originals and are intended to break and disengage from a strong blow) absorving the hit, support from below and the side housing insert, all designed to pop out or break in one fell swoop) I have that same crash bar on my motorcycle, having to adjust it from both sides at the same time, keep pressing between both sides, so It is impossible for it to turn as seen in the image, unless the motor clamping screw has been tightened slightly and instead of being a third bracket, it has become a pivot and that is why the anchors on the side Left sank (and the radiator bottom anchor ???) .... But maybe it's a design flaw for the bar. When looking at another bar (altrider), you can see that they are joined to each other, in the middle, which would allow to transfer the blow to several anchor points and thus avoid bending of the left anchors ... Sorry for making these comments in At this moment, the important thing is that his body was not damaged ... but it is to take advantage of the occasion that there are many riders reading it and from there they will have seen like me that the damage is considerable. Nor is it that I want to resemble Abraham Wald and his theory of bullet impacts on airplanes .... but in the end and seeing the damage to the bike, which should have protected it ... end up damaging it severely. yes ... I know, if they had not been there, the damage "maybe" would have been worse, but I doubt that the damage would have been on a "structural" level ... maybe scratches and maybe the radiator
For now, the first thing I have in mind is to join the two halves of the crashbar, in the middle ... to help prevent it from turning, on the motor screwC720E423-F045-420A-B67A-8A55C27BEDB8.jpeg99AB7AB8-AC34-4FE3-82E0-1AA0A1873363.jpeg

It was a low side on the right, I came off and it rolled to the left side, smacked the road pretty hard. Almost went completely over. Wind shield has rash all the way down
With this, and saying the tabs are bent, I would be worried about the frame being straight, and all the welds.

Most important, is that you are okay.

Happy you are OK, I'm in GA also up around Canton, see many riders without gear - just don't understand it, it works as you can attest.

Curious, where exactly did the accident happen, I ride around a bit and just like to be aware. Happy MC hunting!

Insurance will write bikes off with almost any frame damage so too bad, but glad you're covered and OK. It'll be interesting to follow you to see what you get next.

I do quite a bit of off roading and this bike with these bars have been on the ground several times. I believe the damage came from the angle of the impact. I low sided on the right and then the bike high sided. Almost completely over. So the blow the left bars took was on a downward angle. Linking them may have helped but it hit the payment pretty hard. I can see the point of linking tho

Yep, I'm up 411 and out 140 all the time but haven't gone on that road. I'm new to GA now 4 years from Chicago, I've gone down a lot of roads that turn to gravel or look like meth country, dogs, pigs even a goat running around so I've curbed my "adventure riding" a little....

did a virtual appraisal with insurance yesterday. Video call, that was a first. Ask if doing the assessment this way was ever right. Nope, just part of the process. Dropping off at dealership this afternoon.

How fast do you estimate you were going and how far did it go after you got off? Shadows sure can cause problems.
