:lamp: Tenere delayed to November means more accessories lying on the shelf. Any vendors willing to cheer us up with some discounts on Tenere accessories? Move product, cheer us up, its all good. Something good should come out of this, right

Sounds like a good idea, man it's going to be one painful wait indeed. I was so stoked to get this bike. I was blocking all the messages saying it was going to be late. Today, truth confirmed NOVEMBER! :'(

Guys,

I'm thinking a mid-year giveaway (like they did at Christmas) would be a nice thought to ease the weary waiting souls.........just sayin' :)

I'm thinking there may be some vendors crying in their beer about now... No bike until Nov 30th, no need for farkles that have already been made. Could be along summer for some. Maybe?

I imagine the same. Inventory = cash not earning a return, in addition to reducing liquidity. If anybody is hard up to liquidate I'm sure some deals will be thrown our way.

Considering the delay - why not support the vendors ?

I was actually surprised to see this post. One of the things that many of us need is the ability to have entrepreneurs develop specialized accessories for the Super Tenere as well as our other motorcycles

These vendors are going to be financially disadvantaged due to the fact that they have paid for materials and design work up front and now are seeing a delay of sales because of a natural disaster that in case anyone forgot killed tens of thousands of people and has left many, many families homeless and missing loved ones.

I would suggest that rather than ask for a discount now, those of you waiting for your $14,000 motorcycles order and buy the accessories you want and will need when your motorcycle arrives today from these vendors .

This opportunistic selfishness and greed disappoints me. I expect that some who want a discount today (saving perhaps $30.00) will complain next year about no availability or higher costs of the parts they are demanding a discount on today.

Bill310.

It's not really greed, well maybe, but more about supply and demand. "capitalism". If I was a vendor and wanted to unload stock. How better than to offer a discount to move product?

Now with our inevitable delays, I'm tempted now to hold off on buying anything more for the st 10 until I get it. That's not good for our devoted vendors ;D

It's good for them and it's good for us. Everybody wins. 8)

That's the way I feel, I am holding off till I have the bike in my possession. I can't see myself being motivated to buy much of anything at this point. I feel sorry for the vendors, but this event is far reaching, and many people I fear will be affected by this event.

I agree with you , this discussion is really all about greed and taking advantage of small American manufacturers who are being affected by a natural disaster beyond their control.

I understand Supply and Demand as well as the principles of capitalism. I also know who John Galt is and realize that many people never finished the book and understand what Ayn Rand meant. Selling a superior product at little or no profit is never good for a small manufacturer who is his only employee, they just close up and move to the mountains.

I also believe that we have an obligation to support the small vendors/manufacturers of high quality specialty parts for our Motorcycles.

I have seen too many of the really good aftermarket part manufacturers close up because people will buy the cheap crap first to save a little, then when that fails try and organize a group buy to get the good parts for less. Quite often the good manufacturers just close up because they are working for nothing and those of us who value good workmanship lose another supplier.

I sell my intellectual services and make a living doing that. I made a decision to never discount my services because those that make the claims of supply and demand and capitalism end up being without exception lousy and non profitable clients.

As an example, I watched the whole AltRider Crashbar "cost" debate. I saw the product, the R & D they put into it and paid what they asked, others didn't, that is a free market. The individuals who denigrated the product when it was really just them being cheap does not help those of us who need high quality stuff. I wish if stuff was too expensive for someone's wallet that they would just STFU and move on.

Levering a Japanese earthquake's manufacturing problems aftermath into a weak attempt to hide behind a "free market" goes contrary to the "Buy American" rhetoric, I read on all of these forums. When you want to save $30.00 on a low margin, custom made motorcycle accessory, you are simply sending another great little hobby business down the path towards shutting down because you took away their profit and incentive to continue to manufacture.

If you really wanted to use supply and demand you need to understand the value of volume orders. I doubt that any group buy will be in excess of 20 units making it even less attractive except for the individual who wants to close up and never build these items again.

Since I am obviously in the minority on this topic, I think it is better that we agree to disagree and move on.

Yes, I tend to agree with Motocephalic's assessment for what it's (my opinion) is worth. I was going to respond to Bill310, who makes some very valid observations, but found it just too expansive. I decided not to get into it. Not sure what the guidelines are. If someone wants to go that deeply into a topic, guess there's nothing stopping them.
I agree with the concept of buying high quality products. I try to do that. I hate crap, and there is a lot of it produced these days, so I buy the best quality that I can possibly afford. But I also try to get the best deal I can in the process. I'm not greedy; in fact, I'm a very generous guy. But I am frugal. If you want a second opinion, ask my wife. She say's I'm ugly, too. R
