Please can anyone identify the purpose of the two connectors that are located under the rider's seat? I have circled them in the picture. I have a gen2 ES if that helps.

OBD port(s)? Have to assume, like with a car, if it has computer controlled anything, there has to be a way to access it.

Thanks for the quick reply!

Good thought, they could be diagnostic points. It would make sense with the easy-to-access location. My old strom had two diagnostic ports (engine ecu and ABS), so maybe the super tenere is the same. Hopefully someone else can confirm?

I wonder if that number on the sticker could confirm. Mine doesn't have a sticker like that.

I could try phoning them on that number but then I would find myself trying to describe the connector to some call centre bod. I was hoping the picture would make the job of identification a bit easier!

Edit: the number is for the Yamaha Assist, which according to the documents that came with my bike is a breakdown service. I bet they don't get many callers for Super Teneres!

Random question. Did you ever figure out what these were for? The one I am looking at purchasing appears to have the same connectors and I'm at a loss. It's a 2015 ES.

No, I didn't follow it up. I asked as it is good to know what spare connections are for. Sometimes they can be good sources of auxiliary power or to make fitting security devices easier. In this case I'm not certain but diagnostic ports seems the likely use. I don't think OBD was used on my year of bike (2016).

Dang it. Maybe someone else can help us identify them then? I don't recognize them as a standard aux pin, which is why I'm so curious.

I too have them. It would be nice to know what they are used for. I am looking for the triangular 3 pin connector, described on other posts, but been unable to find it. Found the 4 pin one, but not the 3. Anyone know if the 2016 ES model still have the 3 pin connector?

On the 2012 Service Manual wiring diagram they are items 35 and 36, listed as
35. Accelerator position sensor
36. Throttle position sensor

How to use them to test and set the sensors is on page 8-153.

If it's anything like the Gen 1, the triangular 3-pin plug is in the electrical area on the right side of the bike, up front near the tool kit. If you happen to be looking for a plug to tap it, I have a ton and can send you a set via lettermail

Looked for the damn connector for last 2 days without finding it! So frustrating! I was just looking into a switched +12V to connect the relays for heated gear. I guess I will have to use the power outlet wire. I was curious if anyone else with 2016 ES ran into the same issue (not finding the 3 pin connector)

It's tucked in behind most of the harnesses. I just used the outlet power wire for the relay trigger.

Check out this thread:

Scroll down to Reply #14, the first picture. You will see the 4-pin and the 3-pin connectors.
Go on to page 2, Reply #34. In this picture you can see the black boot, just above the voltmeter probe to the right of the battery.
The 2 connectors should be inside that boot. (There are 2 boots that look the same so you may need to check both of them)
The boot may be buried in some of the wiring harnesses, that's why some people find these hard to find.

Once you find the connectors, notice they are plugged in to a blank female connector (no terminals or wires) that will need to be removed.

I know this is an old, revived thread but you can use google to search the yamahasupertenere.com site:
site:yamahasupertenere.com connector under the seat - Google Search

I don't know anything about these connectors, but I found at least 5 threads asking this same question without any definitive answers.
Some have said the connectors are for some sort of diagnostics.
Sierra1 was probably on the right track but not necessarily the standardized ODB (on-board diagnostics).

Hi there. Thank you very much for the info. The problem is that I've tried everything suggested and still not found the connector (boots, behind harness, name it). I've looked at a lot of pictures and some videos to see all the hidden places where it could be, but still didn't find it. I will try again over the weekend. Thank you again. I will post the results.

Take the panel off the side and instead of looking near where the fuses are located, look at the very front of the bike, where the owner's manual is usually stored, it's just a big void space directly up front and low. Low, front, tucked behind some wiring, that's where I found the 3pin connector that the previous owner tapped into.

The end of the harness with the 3 pin white connector is usually taped back on the main harness in that area. You typically need to cut the tape to pull it out. As previously said, it will have a blank end, not be an open connector. It's usually tucked behind other wiring or a component.

Thanks Eric. I will look into the matter. I will try to post a video

Hi Eric. Looked again this weekend. 3 wire plug is nowhere to be found! Only the 4 wire one. I have a plan for my wiring, so I am ok with connecting accessories, I just was frustrated to not find a plug that everyone else has.
