I have not used my scoot for about two weeks and around an hour ago I went to start it up to go out for a quick spin.
The bike was on the center sand and once it started (no problems with starting) the RPMs were at around 2500 and the rear wheel was spinning enough to register 3 MPH on the speedo, I checked to see if the throttle grip was stuck (it does have a Kaoko throttle lock) but it felt alright and then I revved it once and it still was around 2500 so I hit the kill switch turned the ignition off and waited a few minutes started it again and all was normal.
It's a Gen1 '13, I have not had the most resent recall from last Fall done as my scoot has never once had any off the symptoms.
The weather here in NYC has been odd so far, cold then warm, dry then humid and rainy etc..
Any thoughts?

Colder temps, thicker fuel. Might have been some fuel residue in the engine or just injectors. No wax choke on the S10, but it sometimes gets wonky with odd humidity changes. I wouldn't worry unless it becomes a trend.

Is your '13 subject to the recall? If so, you have your answer.

For reference, my '12 only exhibited the high-idle, no-idle symptoms twice, both times cleared by cycling key. After the recall was completed, it's a new motorcycle.

My gen 1 has dome that a few times in the past. Hasn't done it in a couple of years. I haven't had the second recall done either.

Besides preventing the high-idle/no idle issue, what other characteristics have changed?

Huge improvement in run-ability. Mine has Anthony's flash which helped abruptness, etc., but after the recall the throttle is consistent and predictable.

Thanks for your reply.
Yes my '13 is subject to the recall but it has not had any of the symptoms indicative of the recall so far.
I am reluctant to have the recall done because the three Yammy dealers I inquired to regarding the S10 recall within my area
have not performed this particular recall yet and I am not really too eager to have my scoot be the first.

After I hit the kill switch, turned off the ignition, waited about two minutes, cycled the key and started her up all was normal with idle.

Just a quick update, it has been almost a month since I had the high revs on start issue and I have used the bike twice in the last month and upon starting it up cold both times the high revs issue did not happen again.
Stay tuned......

Is there a new recall on the horizon ? I have a 2012 S10. the last recall I recall was the headlight wiring connections !!!
Go to Yamaha-Motor and use the product recalls link at the bottom of the page. That will tell you if there are any outstanding recalls for your machine.

There is another one that came out last year dealing with the wiring harness. It solves a lot of the high idle issues some have had.
