Appreciate the response Scott, will wait and see what the supplier says before taking any fix actions. The boxes it arrived in did not look damaged at all, so not convinced it's shipping damage.

Currently the supplier (US company) are telling me I've ordered the wrong part, as my bike is an international model and not one available in the US ??? ::)

My bike is a Super Tenere 1200 and the part I ordered is 2BS- 16150-00-00.

I know it's the right part, it's just defective, as the fibre plates will not fit into the basket.

Am awaiting an update.

I call bullshit on it being an international bike, that's a good one! I had the same part shipped from the US in 2015 and fitted to my 2012 UK model, fitted fine, cross check EU parts list number and you'll see the #'s are the same as US part #.

Having got a refund on the defective basket, I sourced another 2014> clutch basket that was fitted today.

What a difference! Quieter, smoother and just makes the bike so much nicer to ride.

If anyone with a Gen 1 is thinking about this mod, go do it, it's definitely a significant improvement. ::008::

Also upgraded to the latest CCT, can't say I've noticed any difference, but definitely more peace of mind ::008:: ::008::

Cheers

I thought I would start a new thread, if the moderators wanted to make this a sticky.
I didn't get a chance to install my new 2014 Clutch Basket in my 2012 Tenere yesterday like I thought, but I did it today. So here's a How To.

Parts to be installed. New Gasket, New Clutch Hub Nut and new 2014 Clutch Basket.
Do you know what your party numbers are for this upgrade? I know the post was in 2014 however we have a 2012 in need of an upgrade and im not sure what to look for. would there be a difference in the 2014 you did or a later year now?

The part number for the basket is shown in post 301 in this thread. I didn’t require the nut or the gasket as both were fine to be reused.

I only changed the basket last year, so the number is highly likely to still be valid. (It is, I just checked)

Thanks for this info, I just bought a used 2012 and have the vibration. I will buy the parts and upgrade mine during my winter upgrade time. I never seen a list of all the part numbers though, basket, gasket and nut? I have the clutch holding tool ordered already. Did Yamaha ever come out with a recall on this or is it all customer upgrade only?

I got mine from Alf England in Bedworth. Was expensive, but worth it.

I originally ordered the basket from Partzilla on eBay, from the USA. Even with shipping and customs charges it was significantly cheaper than UK prices. The part they sent was defective though, and they were very very unhelpful in resolving the matter. Proper A holes if I’m honest.

You may have better luck with them than I did.

The primary driven gear (#1) is the upgrade part. Yamaha considers the nut, (#22), to be a one time use nut because it is staked in place. Most of the time you can re-use it at least once. I've done that myself, re-using it multiple times while doing R&D work before the upgraded part was available. The cover gasket usually comes off intact and can be re-used. I bought an extra, and still have that in storage, never needing to use it.

Yes, the rest of the parts you re-use from your existing clutch assembly.

Note that you need to use a small drift or punch to push out the staked in spot on the nut before attempting to loosen it. And it's MUCH easier to get the nut off with an impact wrench and correct size socket.

Bimota, exactly as Eric said.

I too only changed the basket, the nut and gasket I reused.

You will also require a clutch holding tool of some description.
