Hi all, my first post on this forum. Looking to find nice camp sites (tent) in the national park, or near it we'll be going in early June. Any suggestions?
TIA

TR nat park has 3 seperate units. The south unit at medora, the north unit south of watford city. and in the middle the elkhorn ranch unit which is smaller with long gravel road to it. None of the campgrounds in the park have showers but for 3 bucks the campground in medora can be used. There is cell service in the south unit. I prefer the park comgrounds as they are more quiet and will have wild horses and bison wander thru camp. TR is one of my favorite places to camp and ride do to little traffic. Depending when you go i could possibly meet up and show you around as i live in north dakota.

Hi all, I plan on going to RNP in early June, my wife (on her v-star) will be with me.
A little about myself, I'll be 60 in November, and have been riding off and on since I was 17. Starting off on a 360 twin, moving up to a cb750 custom, then a VTX1800. I finally got to my dream bike, an st1300, had it for 4 years, rode it to Oregon from Minnesota, got back, and two weeks later (October 14th,2016), some jerk in a cage decided at the stop light, that as soon as the light turned green (my light, not his), he was going to turn left, and beat me through the intersection and totaled my bike. I now ride an s10, and am still trying to adjust to this type of bike. I spent 20 years in the Navy, in some really dangerous places, and never had as close a call to getting killed as I did that day in that intersection.

Anyway, I love riding, and traveling. And am anxious to hear more input about the TRNP area, and camping there.

Thanks again.
Wally

Hi Wally, Tell us how you like to camp. What services you want, restaurants and shopping important nearby? Remote or near the action? How much time will you have to spend in the area? The town of Medora is must see as is the medora musical. I know most of the campgrounds in the area and have been there half a dozen times. There is a forest service campground 6 miles west of medora that is 6$ a night and has coin operated showers called Buffalo Gap.

Hi Wally, I live about 30 miles from the south unit of T.R. Nat'l Park. As rstrom says there are campgrounds in and around Medora, more than just one in fact. There's also the Burning Coal Vein campground south of T. Roosevelt south unit: https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/dpg/recarea/?recid=79457.
There are also some campgrounds all along the Maah Daah Hey trail, which is the longest continous singletrack trail in the U.S. (100+ miles). One in particular I recall is at the Magpie trailhead along the Maah Daah Hey, which is right near a trailhead if you're into hiking (I've mountain biked from this trailhead). Bring bug spray as the horse flies are evil at certain times of summer, though you won't get too eaten alive by mosquitos like some parts of Minnesota. Link to Medora showing some lodging available: http://medora.com/stay/

Rstrom, I like to tent, and we'll only be there for Friday, and part of Saturday. We like showers, but not a necessity. Our plan is to see the enchanted highway, and see the park.
Thanks again.
Wally.
