If you go to a Yamaha dealer you will find when ordering a tensioner for any Tenere 2012 to 2018 that it will come up with 2BS-12210-01 as the correct part number.
As soon as they do an update like that they no longer will sell the previous number. I suppose maybe some of the old model numbers might be out there somewhere. Best to go with the -01 model.
Go to bike bandit and look up a 2012 OEM tensioner. It will show the same as a 2018. (2BS-12210-01)

For sure there is some difference between the two. Probably never find out exactly what that is though.

2bs tells you the model it's from. 12210 means it's a cam chain tensioner. The jump from 00 to 01 means a minor change. It could be anything from a different internal spring to a different color.

The 01 means revision 1. You can buy the 00 and get the old version, which works, but expect to replace it in 50k miles. The 01 may last longer, or not. But there is usually a reason Yamaha revised the part. I had one of the earliest CCT failures, before we knew it was an issue. I would spend the extra coin and get the current, revised part. Your mileage may vary, quite literally.

I thought someone who is considering upgrading their OEM cam chain tensioner to the most recent version could use this info.
Recently purchased and recieved the latest model from Rocky Mountain ATV. It’s listed as $126.47 under the 13 Tenere parts listing. Other years show it at a higher price. Seems most places have it priced at $175-200.

Put a manual cct in mine, never had to adjust it in 3 years.
Not quite in keeping with the oem cct side of things, but simpler, half the price and beautifully made.
