I thought I would share some photos of the new Bumot Defender EVO Panniers for the Super T. Since buying my S10, I was looking for a good touring luggage solution (soft panniers are used for off road) I liked the Bumot Defender reviews and they seemed well priced compared to Givi, Touratech and SW-Motech. I had heard they have a new version of the Defender coming out that was less boxy, called the Defender EVO. The Defender EVOs were not out yet when I first started looking. but I did see some pictures. However, a call to Bumot directly helped me sort it out and they helped me get into a nice set of the new EVOs. I am not a top box fan usually but I went ahead and did the whole thing since everything was on sale before xmas. This included the pannier bag inserts, lid bags and toolbox, it seems to be a top class setup. I haven't been able to ride much due to weather but I can't wait to make use of them for camping trips etc. The pannier inserts are really well made and work perfect for quick in and out of gear. I also like the utility bags that fit in the lids of each pannier. These will work perfect for a toolkit, tie downs etc.

I went with the 40L/36L side panniers. These are no wider than the handlebars, so they work well for lane splitting. The left has a cutout for the exhaust which is typical in order to achieve a symmetrical appearance. This arrangement is very similar to the touratech I had on my R1200GSA. Also, the static friction hinges are really cool, they stop in any position. The top box is big, big enough to fit a Large full face helmet with Sena communicator still on, gloves and a couple other small things. The racks themselves were easy to install (about 20 minutes) and seem really sturdy. I did the install of the side, top and my heated grips all in about an hour.

Another big positive was that my tent poles actually fit in the side cases without having to angle them too much. They fit flat on the bottom of the pannier, so packing will be easier. As a comparison, even though they are similar in size, the same tent poles didn't fit well in my Touratech/BMW OEM panniers.

So far, I am really impressed but we will see how they fair over time. Not to mention, their customer service was phenomenal. I assume that ADVMotorrad, the USA reseller for Bumot will carry the EVOs really soon.

So, the new ones are just a little more... rounded? Bigger corners? But- same material, 2mm Al? Integrated tie downs? But the same locks/ latches, etc? Hard to find the differences, the Advmotorrad web page has nothing on the Evo.

Yeah biggest difference is the beveled bottoms and corners. The plastic guards are bigger too. Really I like the look of the standard defender boxes as well, I just took the opportunity to get the newer model. The beveled bottoms also help prevent damage to the cases when you tip.

Hi WildCatGreg - thanks for the pics, and hope to see more. The Defender EVOs are new for 2019 and are being offered in addition to the existing Defenders. We received our first shipment late last month and will have the Super Tenere product pages built later this week.

So, the new ones are just a little more... rounded? Bigger corners? But- same material, 2mm Al? Integrated tie downs? But the same locks/ latches, etc? Hard to find the differences, the Advmotorrad web page has nothing on the Evo.
Hi dannyv - you're pretty much spot on. The Defender EVO system is brand new, but we'll be compiling some of the differences in our vendor thread shortly. There is no change to the 2mm wall thickness, stainless steel hardware (latches, quick release), locks, etc. The corners are beveled, which may make the cases appear slimmer than the standard Defenders. The main functional difference is a welded floor versus the riveted in floor of the standard Defenders, and the addition of a bare (uncoated) aluminum "finish". I need to get them on our scale, but the EVOs may be slightly heavier due to the larger case corners, flanged and welded floor, etc. The racks and the toolbox are exactly the same between the two.

Just a note - we will be stocking black and Frozen Gray, but only bring in the uncoated aluminum by special order. There is no price advantage to going without powder coating (BUMOT charges us the same price with/without powdercoating), and there are definite functional downsides to uncoated cases. That said, if you have to have that specific look, there is now an option available!

Thanks...
