Just an idea and not sure how to put this together but !. Bmw owners group has this great book that list thousands of BMW owners that are willing to help in one way or another all over the country. I have a feeling this was done because the dealer net work is so small. We do not have this problem but shit happens at all hours of the day and weekends. I wonder if we can make a topic section that list people who are wiling to do the same. For example if someone was passing through Knoxville and was looking for a guy that rides the Dragon all the time to lead the way, I would be in. Or a place to camp, A Beer, tire changer, Parts, cup of coffee, or what ever. Its a great idea and I have used it more than once. You meet great people as a rule. No need for a book as most people have a smart phone with internet, we just need a place to sign up, list it by State, city and by phone number. List what we are willing to offer and done. Just a thought. PS I offer everything I listed.

if there is a way to keep the phone number from getting hacked, cool. Otherwise, I check this semi often with my computer (no smart phone) and would be in.

I like the idea, I never get any visitors out in this super scenic part of the country , come see the corn fields, we have cows, pigs, and chickens galore . only straight roads with a deer in every ditch. Steve

I'm up for it, though if my experiences with my BMW were any indication, you will generally not have phone service or web access when you need help... the book was great in that aspect. Any chance we could put info on a downloadable spreadsheet, etc. so that it is saved on the phone?

We do the same thing at www.ST-Owners.com with our RAN list (Riders Assistance Network) and it should be pretty easy with the basic site function. Chris has a great mod in the database section and that could easily be modified to do the same thing. It's been a great support section on my sites to help those with issues while on trips.

I am first to sign up and no worries about my number, If you are in East TN give me a call, if I have time I will show you the way to the dragon. Need a tool or tire I got it. Beer and gen BS is on tap as well. 865-919-1915. 20 years in the MOA I have never had one problem giving out my number and I dont expect that to change. God speed, people who suck need not call. PS 17,000 miles on the S10 in 8 months and I love it. ::021::

I'm in in principle, however, I would prefer that the info be restricted to bona fide board members... as is the case with the paper BMW book. If that could be assured then I could deal with an online version.

Chris and I talked a bit about this last October, but it kind of got dropped. Seems like a nice thing to have, as long as it's only viewable by registered members.

If a book is to be provided it would be helpful if some basic tech data and basic symptoms/diagnostics guides are also printed. As well as substitute parts as data is accumulated. Regardless, count me in.

If we could get each owners to leave a tube of JB Weld near their favorite trail and post the coordinates of the location, wouldn't that accomplish the same thing? Kind of a mini-cache for the Tenere. ::025::

Funny, as I have pondering something like this for a long time... Ever since I did the "Maintenance Parts List" thread.

However, I have always been concerned about posting my phone number, etc. out in the open on a forum. Seems like one way around this would be if someone could host such an owners (and dealer/shop) list on some kind of *SECURE* web site... Perhaps one that even required some security like passwords, a site key, etc. to access. Then, as mentioned, anyone with a smartphone, iPad, etc. could readily access it.

As for ending up someplace where there's no cell tower or internet access, that's simple enough to solve for the individual. Just download and install a PDF Reader app to your smartphone, "print" or "save" the list in PDF format then copy it to your smartphone, and voilá... You then have the list there and easily accessible anytime you need it. Then periodically, as the list grows, you simply copy and paste over your older list on the phone.

I've been carrying around my "Maintenance Parts List", a copy of the full Super Ténéré service manual, parts catalog, and owners manual in PDF on my phone since I got the bike, as well as service manuals, etc. for my other bikes, my two cages, radar detectors, GPS, etc. for a long time, and they do come in handy.

Just a thought...

If I had the cash I would like to create an owners group like the bmwmoa for Asian bikes. Call it JOGOA Japanese owners group of America. The MOA mag is great but only for BMW. I am sure more people have asian bikes than German. The number of trips we take must be 3 times over other brands and we must out number them 4 to 1. I am a member of MOA as well as over 130,000 other people and we all pay to be a member. The rallies are huge and raise a ton of cash. Just thinking out loud and enjoying an adult beveage (Jack and Ginger). PS the MOA mag is a great read every month and put together as well as any mag in the world. ::022::
